im not sure, but my guess is im still having videocard driver problems.
ive used envy to install the drivers for my nvidia 7 series, but in trying to ajudt any kind of resolutions in world of warcraft (im playing it from wine software) the system freezes, and i have to restart.
did envy install the wrong drivers for my card, or is there some other problem i need to fix before i can play my game.....
help is greatly appreciated, :P

More likely its a wine problem. Wine isnt perfect, while it will let you run a windows application it sometimes freezes up.

is there anything out there that works better than wine (that i dont need to pay for) or am i going to have to run windows inside virtualbox?

I'm loving VMWare Player 2.0.1 on my Kubuntu Gutsy 64-bit rig. I run a Win XP installation on it, with a FoxPro database -- very slight performance hit, compared to native Win XP. My app won't run on Wine, but it flies on VMWare Player.
But I'm not a gamer, so I dunno about that. :)

As others have said Wine is not perfect,it's use, As well as it's working is going to be based on what games/programs your trying to use with it.
For running window apps or gaming your options are few.
1) Wine.
2) Cedga.
3) Vmware/ virtual box running windows, and your game/window programs.
4) Dual boot windows, and ubuntu.
5) Build a budget machine for surfing the net, and use your main machine for gaming.

You may have real issues running a graphics intensive game in a virtual machine. Expect it to be slooooooow.
