now, I am a noob at the linux thing... but i've chosen to run it simply because windows sux.
I managed to install Ubuntu 5.04 all alone. I even managed to update it using the update manager, install the latest java, and even install Limewire. all by myself, i feel so proud. \\:D/
Earlier today, i ripped a cd using Sound Juicer. I didn't realize it ripped to .OGG format. I used Rhythmbox to play the ogg files, and it worked like a dream...
Then this nightmare started. I downloaded my favorite song using Limewire, and I couldn't make it play in rhythmbox. :-| So i thought to myself, no big deal, there must be SOME program that can play my MP3's. but no, it told me that i need to download the codec for it.
I read the thread on Unofficial Ubuntu guide. Using the guide, i tried to install XMMS, because of what i've heard of it, it's just like Winamp (which I know how to use quite well). But when i type in the terminal what it says on the site i get this message:
raven@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install xmms
Password:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package xmms is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package xmms has no installation candidate
raven@ubuntu:~$
I also tried looking for help on XMMS.org... but the site wouldn't load....
My question is, can someone give me detailed instructions how to either a) install the codec's so I can play MP3's in Rhythmbox (if it's possible... I semi-taught myself how to play with that program too.) or b) how to install XMMS
Thanks in advance.
