View Full Version : Flame war in reverse!

I thought it would be amusing to start a flame war, but in reverse (i.e. the worst of it at the beginning and ending up with an innocent and unrelated question).
So here goes :-P
You are constantly jumping to conclusions about what I mean. It's not jumping to conclusions when you have no idea what you are talking about.
I grow weary of your constant barrage of egotism. You think you know everything, I am just tired of it. p_quarles: welcome to my ignore list.

Don't listen to him, he's almost always wrong. Use emacs to open your menu.lst, then make the changes. It's much easier that way.

You have two options: use Vim to configure grub, or just go play with TuxPaint. Sheeze.
eph1973
October 6th, 2007, 08:18 PM
Remember that you can use 'cat' to look at files on the command line (you don't always have to open a separate program, like he said to do). If you want to configure your menu.lst, you could always use this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=567971).

You people make me sick! - The only editor worth using is TECO - Vim is for people who want a blackcurrent flavoured drink and emacs is for people who need a raincoat.... You Heard Me! - If your not |337 enough to use a real text editor then **** off back to windoze

Can't you follow simple directions? Like I said, run
vim /boot/grub/menu.lst
and post the results here.
P.S. To eph1973: Emacs is a great operating system. If you just want a text editor, though, it's a few circuits short of a pocket calculator.

Linux is totally Useless! I'm an experienced Microsoft Engineer with 657 years experience, but a friend told me to try linux because its supposed to be so good and has no viruses, but now I've go it installed I can't do anything on it!
First of all, where's the freaking start button? I eventually found that there are menus at the top instead, but thats a really stupid layout - I mean, who would look under an Applications menu at the top of the screen to find a program? Clicking on Start is much more logical. Than I wanted to see what was installed on the comupter (I was told it came with whole lot of software), but I couldn't find the control panel. So I tried the obvious thing of opening explorer and getting to it from My Computer. But its rediculous, when I right-clicked on the Start button (aka Applications) I didn't get an Explore option. Eventually I found something called nautilus which I think is supposed to be windows explorer. Now, where's control panel, and I can't even find Program Files....
Ok, so I gave up on that and decided to download some tools I use for system admin (such as a decent registry editor). I used firefox to download them to the desktop, but when I try to run it, it says it can't open it, I mean its just a small registry editor exe. How hard can it be!
Btw, someone told me that the terminal was a good tool - thats crap. I opened it (I found it under the badly name Applications menu) and it didn't do anything. There was just a useless menu and a blank screen. I clicked all over it, but nothing happened. Someone really needs to fix it so it does something.
So since I can't do anything useful I'm going back to good old, reliable windows. At least it works properly and has a control panel, and anyway I love windows notepad.

Doesn't anyone use 'pen'!? It's like octal, but it rounds at 5 instead of 8 (1, 2, 3, 4, 10... ;))

Yes, I use pen quite a lot. Sometimes I code in python though, but I find pen easier.

n00bs!
I use a base 32 numbering system, because I find hexadecimal to be too simple. Here's a quick lesson:
1, 2, ...9, a, b, c,...t, u, v,
the decimal number 32 is 10
the decimal number 1023 is vv
and so on.
