Okay, I'm having trouble understanding this loki installer jobby.

I understand how to run games natively (doom3, quake4), i also understand how to get games running in wine. what i dont understand is what loki installers are for.

i've found out that there are two types of installers, ones for games that work natively, and ones for wine. why are the installers even necessary? what is it that the loki installer does that isnt done when you install directly natively or using wine? whats the purpose of the installer?

another thing i dont understand is, i have found a general installers just known as the loki installer, and then i've come across installers for individual games. do they work hand in hand? how does that all work out? basically, i want to install call of duty on wine, but the winehq site tells me that i need to use the loki installer. i am puzzled why some games you can install in wine without a loki installer, and some you cant.

maybe someone could help me out on this one. i'm really tryna rap my head around this one.

I've never used it, but from what I can gather it's kinda like Synaptics for games. Or rather, for certain games that Loki (and the Loki devs after the fall) have worked on. It supposedly makes patching and installing these games on different architectures easier. Some (the game-specific ones?) may even be binary patches directly related to getting the game to work in Linux.

That's what google told me after 10 minutes of reading anyways...

Good luck,
