im on a 17" intel iMac. it has X1600 ATI video. 1 gig of ram. and im using Ubuntu Ultimate 1.5, however, it is esentially Ubuntu feisty 7.04, with a lot of programs installed from the get go.
its pretty much the same computer as you have, yours is jus a newer verion of it.
is that what you needed??

Yes. The difference is that the 20" iMac only comes with ATI graphics. The 17" had ATI or Intel.

Note ATI requires XGL for compositing, so you need to get 3D acceleration working and XGL installed (and running) before Compiz-Fusion will work.

I used the guide cyberdork33 posted a while back on an Intel iMac with an x1600, and it worked well.

However, in about a month, (hopefully - I have doubts that they'll actually come through this time) ATI's drivers will support AIGLX so it won't be necessary to use XGL anymore.

And even if they don't, XGL is a lot easier in Gutsy. just install and you are done, no need for all the scripts.
