Hi. I note that your download site only talks about AMD 64 bit CPUs and recommends the x86 version for Intel users.
Will this be any different with Gutsy ie. will I be able to install a 64 bit version with a quad core Intel chip running Vista 64 bit Home Premium?
Thanks, John Williams

If you have a 64-bit capable CPU, then you can use the 64-bit Ubuntu. AMD/Intel, doesn't matter. Try out the 64-bit version--I hear it's quicker.

If you have more than 3 gigabytes of RAM, you should be using the 64-bit edition.
Otherwise, there's not really much point - it's a bit more work to get proprietary applications running, and on average you will still only see the same performance.

Actually there is a point. It no longer is that much more work to get the proprietary apps (Java and Flash Plugins) since there are scripts that do the installing for you. As for performance, depending on the application you are running, you can easily see upwards of 30% gain in performance with 64bit.
Basically, no real downside and only upside.

Thanks for your input. As you can probably guess I'm a complete newbie.
I intend to wait for Gutsy Gibbon and give it a try.
Would I be better going for a dual boot on my main hard drive or waiting until I can afford another hard drive and installing on that?
My current system-
Intel Q6600, Asus P5N-E SLI, 4 GB ram, nVidia 8600GT,Samsung 500gb hdd-running Vista 64 bit.
Thanks for listening, John
