It is pypanel, but not that heavily altered. I just coloured it to match the Openbox theme, and always leave out the icons for the open applications.

(I only use openbox with xfce on one computer, btw. My laptop still runs plain openbox.)

Here's mine:

controls are Murrina-BlueGrey, the border's called Murrine and the icons are made via TangoGenerator. I'm afraid I don't really remember where I got the wallpaper from, but I'm sure it must've been from some older '* 200* Desktops (Safe for work ONLY)' thread.

Since Listen still frequently crashes on my 7.10 beta install, I'm currently using VLC for playing music.

Ok, had Compiz-Fusion rocking all weekend, but as usual, when it comes down to it, I prefer a simpler desktop.

I'll keep a separate whiz-bang profile for when people come by the house so I can show off...

Here's my October First Desktop:

Wallpaper- Deviant Art
Glossy Controls
Clearlooks Window Borders
Tangerine Icons
Font is Baveuse

Simple Simple Simple! I think I'll toss a desklet or two on there...

Yeah.. i checked it out. i liked your icon set, what is it, and where can i find it? also i guess you're using open box? me on compiz fusion.. yeah yeah..those who are reading this are already guffawing :P.. but i love the effects :P. so i need some good GTK based theme, which is dark with orange in it. thanks for the heads up tho:D

Edit:
ok got down to using Orange - LinstaPlastic v2 which isn't what i want, but its works. now I've found a wallpaper, but newb at modding it. if someone could 'gimp' it and make it a bass with a transparent background, would appreciate it big time!

Combination of Clearlooks and Human, with the colours modified (titlebars set to 3d3d3d, so I'll remember for the next distro I try if I use Gnome) and the gtk set to emulate (rip-off) the dark XP "rainy day" theme, which I used with an assortment of wallpapers previously. Desktop is from drawing up on DeviantArt called "a tear", which reminds me of several album covers that I love. Icons are beautiful HumanElephant (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/HumanElephant+orange+-+blue?content=67081&PHPSESSID=7bfe99bd359b20cd433a144f0a183655) icons.

A very basic desktop for me.

The theme is my tweaked Clearlooks theme, with the following settings:

Window border: Clearlooks Alternative
Controls: Clearlooks
Icon set: Tango
Colour for selected items: #7890A7

Wallpaper is from the Ubuntu community art wiki. The name is "elephant-bleu". It goes well with my theme. Find the wallpapers here:

Resease!!! I'm tired of searching ...sifting through gnomelook ..looking for a dark orange theme which wont have bugs in pidgin and mozilla..but alas!

Ok, I will upload it to GNOME-look.org ASAP, then will Private Message you with a link, as well as edit this message with it.

EDIT: Here is the link, just as I promised: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=67276

But hey, I finally got kiba-dock installed (had to look all over, and found a script someone wrote that didn't work, so I opened it and did it a line at a time, and compiled it myself using his script to guide me in the terminal. don't think I want to do that again, but I learned some neat stuff doing it that way. Look! It's just stuff you can do in the terminal anyway!!! yikes. Now to get it to work in fluxbox without the windowed effect)

I felt like going for a Vista look this time, expect the RAM usage is much better since this is on Xubuntu 7.04. Minimal-Linsta theme, LiNsta-black-plastic WM theme, gTangish 2.0 icons. I used to have Vista on this system so it is strange to see the RAM usage in the applet is only about 100mb used at boot out of 1.5 GB (used to be 85mb but I added VMware server and that adds some services... clearly not a problem).

This is one of two of my current machines. The other I don't have a screenshot for right now, but it looks the same.

http://xs319.xs.to/xs319/07394/2007-09-27-193147_800x600_scrot.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs319&d=07394&f=2007-09-27-193147_800x600_scrot.jpg)

Celeron laptop (http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2007/09/24/my-new-thinkpad/) with Openbox 3.4.4 on Arch, using mostly GTK2 apps like Audacious, Kazehakase, Sylpheed, etc. Background is the popsquares screensaver (http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2007/09/27/a-clearlooks-popsquares-desktop/), tweaked for a Tango-esque color pattern. OB theme is a flattened Clearlooks (http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2007/09/02/openbox-theme-clearlooks-flat/).

This was an old K6-2 laptop (http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2007/09/13/gtk12-doesnt-have-to-be-ugly/) that I "borrowed" from a shelf at work. At the time it was running Gutsy with only GTK1.2 applications. Ugly as sin, but amazingly fast for a 450Mhz machine.

http://xs219.xs.to/xs219/07374/2007-09-13-075740_1024x768_scrot.png.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs219&d=07374&f=2007-09-13-075740_1024x768_scrot.png)

GTK themes were set to Mist. OB theme was the same flattened Clearlooks, if I recall correctly. Background was #3465a4, set with xsetroot.

Looks good K.Mandla. I tried Arch a couple of days ago, and just couldn't get it to work - after all the updating (which was riddled with strife because the repos had all changed), i then got a kernel panic. Reinstalled with ubuntu server, and had it all set up how i wanted it in 2 hours...

Ok, the first screen shot is w/o beryl, so it is just the clearlooks theme, with the nuoveXT-aero icons. The second one is beryl with the emerald theme Fancy-Black i think.

It is supposed to resemble vista in looks, so when you get close, you see what vista still dreams about....functionality.

sudo apt-get install mpd mpc ncmpc gmpc sonata

sudo ln -s $HOME/mp3s /usr/share/mpd/music ## Make sure you change $HOME/mp3s to the path of your music

mpc update

Then you can just type in "ncmpc" into the terminal. Or, open up Sonata and play that way.

it is pretty slick. it takes a bit of time to get used to the mouse movements, but it has some nice things about it, like you having to shape the window yourself.

i've changed about eight times since. i'll try to post another shot the next time through it.

Details? Theme, wallpaper, fonts?

Sure! The theme and icons are Nuvola, from the gnome-extra-icons package. I changed the font's background color through the gtkrc-2.0 file (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=3197338&postcount=435). I set the icons size at 82 and the text size at 12.
I downloaded the wallpaper from http://www.xfce-look.org/.
I haven't changed the fonts actually, it's Sans 9.
The Screenlets Sidebar uses the curved theme. The clock is actually Cairo-Clock, I just copied the Station theme from the Screenlet's clock.
I use Compiz-Fusion with Emerald. The Emerald theme is VRunner Quicksilver. I found the cube's caps on Google. The skydome was downloaded from http://taint.org/xplanet/ (I'm not sure if the page is still there).
The icon's on Kiba-Dock were collected from around the web, mostly looking in Google. The Clock plugin uses Cairo's glassy theme.
The upper panel is set at size 38%, transparency 20%. I removed the "Applications" text and used the image downloaded from.
I put a transparent xfce4-terminal on the desktop, setting it's transparency shade level to none, and turning the "Show Window Borders" and "Show menubar" off. That cool-looking messenger is gaim-text (I haven't upgraded to Pidgin/Finch). I just love it, way better than using Gaim with its gui!!!
Firefox's theme is Kempleton.
I think I mentioned everything. If there's anything else you want to know, just ask!

By the way, all desktops in this thread look so cool!!

However, I just changed my Active Window title font to a few of those via Obconf, and the titlebar is changing to the font but they are not going all caps :confused:I experienced the same issue but what I did was I edited my fluxstyle (my WM: fluxbox btw), and changed to the font name.

An excerpt from my current fluxstyle (tylerdurden's):

*font: AvantGarde LT Medium-8
window.font: AvantGarde LT Medium-8
toolbar.clock.font: AvantGarde LT Medium-8
toolbar.workspace.font: AvantGarde LT Medium-8

[QUOTE=rjmdomingo2003;3478224]I experienced the same issue but what I did was I edited my fluxstyle (my WM: fluxbox btw), and changed to the font name.

BTW, the font name you incorporate into your style shouldn't necessarily be the file name. When I open the font file using Gnome's font viewer, the font name indicated on the window title is the name I put into my style. It isn't always the file name.

Ex: font file name: AvantGardeGothicLTMediumCAPS.ttf
actual font name: Avant Garde LT Medium

In this example, you put the actual font name into your style.

Ok, I decided on Green color for my desktop this month because I couldn't find the right wallpaper and so on and so forth for a dark orange theme.
So here goes :
GTK : Onux Green
Icons: Matrix Rebooted
Composite Manager: Compiz Fusion with Emerald
Emerald Theme: Slate Horn_Green
AWN and some custom icons from deviant art. Wallpaper is from Interfacelift.

I love you're wallpaper. My only criticism about your desktop: those eyes on your panel! They really freak me out!!!

it reminds me, that someone is watching me all the time :D

Awsome! I was looking for something like this to freshen and soothe my old desktop pc. The XFCE-panel suits it really well. Will you release it?
*I need to start digging your code to learn how to theme right:lolflag:*

Thanks. I've uploaded the Openbox theme to box-look (here (http://box-look.org/content/show.php?content=67434)) and the gtk theme, which uses the Murrine engine, to gnome-look (here (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=67435)).

Making themes in Openbox is pretty simple, actually, and one of the many reasons why I like it so much. Just play around with the various settings until you come to something you like. Agave (http://home.gna.org/colorscheme/) is a great tool to make sure the colours match.

Yes, the themes I've made were very easy to create. They just lack your expertise and style. I've got a lot of time to learn though:)

Hello all: I really like a lot of the desktops I've seen here and it's given me some great ideas...I may even attempt to configure an openbox setup some day!

Anyway, here is my desktop for now:

Gnome (running some KDE apps as well) + Compiz-fusion

GTK theme is Clearlooks with nuoveXT2.2 icons (from Gnome-look.org)

Emerald theme is a slightly modified version of UbuStuTrans (from Gnome-look)

I don't remember where the desktop background is from. The dome background for Compiz is in Sea and Sky Bryce Pack on Compiz-themes.org (http://www.compiz-themes.org/content/show.php/Sea+and+Sky+Bryce+Pack+%2812+domes%29?content=5518 6)

Well, here you go:

I experienced the same issue but what I did was I edited my fluxstyle (my WM: fluxbox btw), and changed to the font name.

An excerpt from my current fluxstyle (tylerdurden's):

Hope this helps.

Thank you, I edited the ~/home/user/.config/openbox/rc.xml file with these contents, but they still don't change to all caps!! Anyone else on Openbox experiencing this, or how do I get them to change? Do I have to logout and back in? I'm converting a few video files right now so I can do that later, if it's the only way. It's not updating in "real time." The fonts on the window title only change to bold or size of the new font I choose, but not the all caps.

It's a TTF font, that means you need to install it in the ~/.fonts folder (I reckon you already did this, I'm just posting for the noobs) and then restart the font DB or restart your computer

It shows up in all programs in the font list, so I'm assuming it's installed, but I don't have a .fonts in my home folder. How do I restart the font DB??
