So i recently received an iPod nano as a gift, a 2G one I believe. It came directly refurbished by Apple with a sweet software update that doesn't allow me to use it in any capacity. I tried to wine iTunes but while running that I couldn't detect my iPod from there. I've tried to use Rhythmbox but as long as I can see my iPod Rhythmbox automatically closes every time I click on it. Any suggestions for what to do before I send it back in disgust? Thanks.

If you know what your doing, you could try to look for a 'fixed' BIOS and flash it with that...

The first time you use an iPod of any kind you MUST connect it to a windows/mac os computer. Preferably windows as you won't be able to use it on linux properly otherwise.
This "formats" it. That doesn't just mean format the file system, it also creates the ipod database etc. Without this the ipod cannot be used. Once you've connected it to a windows system running itunes then you'll be able to use it with linux no problem :)

I believe Amarok can also create the database?
