UT knew I forgot something..
Rage won't have a Linux native, up to wine on that one :(

Edit take that back, JC ^^ went back a bit on what he said before since people reacted and there will be a Linux binary.. Weee peer presure rules ^^

Maybe I should have been clearer.

Any open source/free games that I should add to the list ;)

Star Wars Jedi Outcast runs well under wine. Have not tried it over the network, and it is not Free software.

I like Space Traders (http://www.playspacetrader.com/). it is made by a local guy here in Grande Prairie Alberta Canada. Ok the real game costs $20 but there is a demo.

Warsow is a good one I just wish it had a single-player mode. A Conker like single-player would be really interesting.

It has one. Just use bots for enemies. The AI isn't so good though.

So how do you use bots? Do you still have to join a server? I'd like to play this game offline against bots (if just for practice :) )

You mean Quake Live?: http://www.quakelive.com/ windows only beta sign up, it is just q3a with bright skins, stat tracking, and what looks to be subtle bloom:

Wow, these games look great!

I'm trying out AssaultCube now, but I would like to know,

Can you hook up a controller to a linux system to play with one of these games? I just prefer to play games with controllers instead of with the keyboard and mouse. Anyone?

you probably can, but it's a good way to get pwned. Console style controllers really suck compared to a good keyboard/mouse.

right now i'm using SNES controllers with my PC, and as i understand it other controllers are perfectly compatible (you can probably find how to install it through a quick search).

Open Arena has gamepad controls, I got my Xbox control to work pretty good with it but as sloggerkhan said, prepare to die haha ;) bots you can handle but a live player if any good moves to erratically for the analog sticks to keep up since they ain't as accurate as a mouse
