View Full Version : What do you think of my Ubuntu Studio Wallpaper

I made this pretty quick, but I was wondering what people think. Suggestions and opinions are welcome. I am mostly just curious. One thing I keep debating is whether the 'Ubuntu Studio' part would be better without the 2nd set of darker braces.

I like it, but then again, I usually like the darker themes....

MetalMusicAddict, could you post the method you use in inkscape (or gimp, if you are using a raster to vector workflow) to generate the look of the logo? I'd like to make something that matches at some point, but I am not really to sure how you went about getting that speckled/faded look, at least if you were using inkscape.
Oh, and I've concluded I like the single set of braces better.

I like the many swirlies with their different shades. Nice... I like the 2nd and 3rd one.

Something else I've been working on wallpaper-wise. Also needs some tweaking.

I would erase the white "brackets" above and under "ubuntu studio" ... so only "ubuntu studio" without the brackets. Looks more simple, which is better IMHO.

Why guns? That has absoultely no connecton with ubuntu studio. Don't get me wrong, i like the musical notes and the colour, well everything, but the guns look so out of place on it.

One more, maybe getting closer to the idea in the art spec. Maybe not. But much improved over the blue one, I think.

It was a hard case. The kind that gives you a headache, if not from trying to put the clues together, then from thugs waiting with blackjacks in an alley. So I did what I always do when I needed to relax. I went to the studio.
The Ubuntu Studio.
A smooth session never failed to put things in perspective. I could tell someone was getting uncomfortable, someone who thought getting close to the truth was doing society a disservice and took it on themselves to be judge, jury, and executioner. It had something to do with a mysterious "DRM" and a front company called "Microsoft."

Your designs are very basic, and I love them! Keep them coming!

Here's the last background with a more "distressed/grunge/indie/punkish" look to match the hardy style logo.
see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/OfficialHardyIncoming?highlight=%28studio%29
My first attempt at playing with the style.
I don't think this version is really better, but it has given me a basis for learning how to make things that match the logo a bit more.
Color might be a little off. I had to use a .gif / .jpg at a lower resolution as using a .png at standard res was too big (even jpeg at that high of a res was too big). Not sure which is better quality, though I was able to make jpeg higher res than .gif .

Something that does bother me about the music one is the selection of notes. Maybe someone who knows music might know a better selection of them?

I like the stuff in #12. I'm unsure about the guns though. Personally its cool but not for official release.
And why the hell aren't some of these on the WIKI? :)

What about using brushes instead of revolvers? A film strip would be good too.

What do you mean by brushes? What you brush your hair with or the nature type... thing. :) Oh! Like paint brushes?
Wow, 3 different meanings :guitar:

I'm going to make one with some vinyl records this weekend if I have time. I know the revolver them is kinda random. I just have a thing for jazzy noir detective crap.

I like the paint brush idea. My reason, is that it includes two types of media, music and painting. Also, two different senses.

Yes, check the Ubuntu Studio AYO Wallpaper (http://www.73lab.com/index.php?menu_item=1&curr_lang=1), truly a classic. ;)

Why don't you just switch to Ubuntu Studio?
sudo aptitude install ubuntustudio-desktop ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins ubuntustudio-graphics ubuntustudio-video

V Cool stuff sloggerkhan. I especially like the ones with the guns shooting the musical notes.
Keep up the great work!

So I've been too lazy to work on wallpaper. Actually I've just had a lot of schoolwork and such.
Anyhow, zebra panel textures:

I need to remake the lion one. It's way too thin.

So a new background is up.

Working the grunge/stressed/worn/faded style in inkscape is really taxing on my laptop.
Working with even one of the components is relatively slow. Working with them all at once is a pain. If I even select one operation wrong, I can end up with the program hanging with my CPU at 100%. So I didn't take this image everywhere I'd have liked.
Incidentally, I'm thinking of getting another computer.
As always, feedback/comments appreciated.
