Could anybody give me a hand in getting this to run under wine. I know about freeciv, and have it installed, but I would really like to get CIV2 going. I have installed it with wine, but I can't get it to actuall play. When I run it, it lets me select everything to start a game, and as soon as that is finished it exits, and says it ended successfully. Anyone got some ideas?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason

I have some news for you. The first is somehow bad i just like you was unable to play the game even though i bought cedega but getting the same problem. The second news is a bit better. I was able to install and play this game in the following way:
you get qemu and install vvindoze (i installed my 98 se that i had)
than you intall civ2 in this vvin (that is run in qemu)

that is the only way i could make it work. However it is somehow slow (qemu emulates a pentium II) and i was not able to play long because i have some strange switch off problem whenever i use qemu or cedega but i guess is dependent on my laptop so you might be able to run and play without any problem.

To install qemu and vvin in it you may check out tips and tricks section "install vvin free in ubuntu" (though it is not free as you will need of course vvindoze)

good luck

I am positive as well :) if you find that way just let me know please. I have civ2, civ2 call to power, civ3, and a friend let me try his alpha centaury. Of course all were windows versions So the results of all my tries: civ3 works with cedega; alpha centaury according to winehq works with wine but i could not make it further than the first round (same with cedega) the other two just will not work for me other than in windows or in emulation but wine is not an emulator.

but if you could. pls let me know please
