What's your laptop? Some laptops don't work with the brightness applet, like Sony Vaios for example.

Mine is a Toshiba Satellite A135. IIRC the brightness buttons on my keyboard popped up the slider OSD before a previous update. The control still works just not with the keyboard.
I will give it a few days then file a bug if it doesnt get fixed I guess

The Buttons to command the brightness on my laptop used to work at first but now they dont, however i have another key on my laptop that either makes brightness go up all the way or all the way down and it does work. My laptop is a Gateway MT6707

hehe, i can now decrease brightness with the keyboard, but not increase it. sorta funny, I think the devs know about it all though since their are already bugs filed.

It doesn't work here eithre (Asus z71v). The applet will go down to half-way on the slider on up to the max, but it doesn't do anything, and my keys for changing my brightness do show a slider, but don't affect the brightness. It used to work (back in Edgy days) but I think it's been broken since Feisty. Or it could be that I'm using the newest Asus-acpi module for Gutsy, it's been having weird issues the last few releases.

Same on my Thinkpad T60p. Worked in Feisty, kind of worked in Gutsy a few weeks back, now doesn't work at all. Either from the applet or from the keyboard buttons.

It seems to have been silently fixed since this thread started, Out of curiosity I tried again today and lo and behold it all worked right. Cool
