Hey all

I know you've all probably heard every noobie question in the book, so I thought it'd be fun to let you experts answer another one... only this time in reverse! The first person posts the final answer, and the rest work their way back to the original question. Have at it!

QUESTION:

I just downloaded this file, what do I do now?

(This is, of course, before the initial query as to what kind of file it was, then I get the answer)

ANSWER:

Whoa, slow down, programming 3d games requires a lot of knowledge, and a team of graphics, backend, frontend, and funding people.

Start with simple CLI programs, I recommend using Python, see the link in my sig.

Well, that isn't the complete answer...

But the questions goes like this:

I just downloaded <program> from the web, and it won't install.

I heard Microsoft is selling Novell.

Why is my permission denied for this command?

Billy_McBong
September 26th, 2007, 06:48 PM
sudo chmod 777 /:D

init1
September 26th, 2007, 07:45 PM
sudo chmod 777 /:D
I actually tried that once. It messed things up.

Answer:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda1

Note:
(Don't actually use this command. It could mess up your hard drive! (even worse than sudo chmod 777 /))

Did you download the right file and burn it to a cd? (I thought this would be clear now, can't imagine things still going wrong!)
