When I run
wine setup.exe I get this error report:

Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (938)
PAPP:Max Payne 2
PVENDOR:Remedy Entertainment (http://www.maxpayne.com)
PGUID:EFE1AB94-5466-4B6E-BE31-FF4C115FD25D
$7.1.100.1248
@Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (2195) BT_OTHER 55496.52

What can I do?

I am running Wine 0.945

I assume you're running the command from wherever the setup.exe file is located. If not do so and try again. If you are then it may simply be that the program you are trying to use is not compatible with wine. A quick google for "max payne wine" gives a lot of hits, some of which could just help out I suspect. Have a look yourself and see if you can find anything which might help you.

I did a search on the subject, but I couldnt find a solution...

Edit: I still can`t launch the installation, but I found a workaround - there is a ripped version of MP2 available for which no installation is neccessary...
The game runs just fine and it truly is a classic...
