I'm Just wondering if you had the chance for a premium UNLIMITED storage account would you take it :) One that allows one to upload Media files and play them back over the web along with Pictures, etc. Like a online desktop but again u'd have UNLIMITED storage okay same question however would you become a beta tester for them.

I know I would. ;)

I suppose I would as well. Sounds good, too good. Offering unlimited space is pretty amazing. If you have the opportunity to beta test, I would say go for it. I would just be picky as to what files you store. and read the terms really good so you know what is happening to and with you files.

I'd also be interested in what kinds of speed they're able to offer or if there's a max file size. It seems like it'd be difficult to reliably serve gigabytes of data over the net.

At the same time, if I had the chance to beta test, I think I'd find a variety of file sizes and put the system through it's paces.

Hmm...how much per year? I would definitely be into this-it would make swapping between distros and PCs so much easier...it would have to have a rider in the EULA that says all files are the responsibility of the end user-I don't want anyone policing my stuff, even though I have nothing to hide. Just give me a big ole box and take my money, thanks. :)

oht it's FREE if you start as a Beta Tester :) then NO charges WILL apply no credit card or any billing info. needed. However I already chose the Three - one is going for it , if the other two don't respond i'll send u an PM.

No.

* I don't have an internet connection
* I have or would buy hard drives or DVDs for storage
* I woudn't trust an external site for anything other than remote backup
* There is no such thing as "unlimited"

"* There is no such thing as "unlimited""

I know that and what's the diff. between remote backup of all files compared to the others - both would of had personal info. No it's not actually a backup site at all - it's a media site to upload music and junk - and anyone should know not to give up control to a website, etc.. unless u don't care that others see it. Again no billing nor personal info. is required at all. :) just a username and password..

Remote Backup != Primary Storage

Oh, for a media storage site, that makes more sense, I would probably use it if I had the means, and the media.

I don't trust things I don't control, and rarely even then...

Ditto for me to, unless it's something I don't care to let control of. For my personal info. YES that is highly right, however I go one step further than u - Unless one owns the backup site or computer - I will not give my personal data to them.

However for music and pics that I don't care to share than yeah it works out and I will upload again like you and I both agree on - Be careful on what goes out to the net.

not unless i owned it.

i've lost too much media with sites like photo-point shutting down without warning.

nowshining

svt then don't trust the site wholly at least keep a local backup somewhere :) so incase something like that happens.

I will give it a shot...if you still need someone.

I'll give it a shot, if you can handle more people. I already have unlimited free space (qsl.net because I'm a ham operator) but it's really slow, so I rarely use it for anything but my website that I need to redo since I haven't done anything to it in years, lol.

If you're still interested, I'd definitely like to be a beta tester. Hell, I even need the space right now.

I really don't see the need for this type of service, personally. I guess I don't trust outside sources enough with my data. Probably the same reason why I don't use things like GMail to store all of my mail.

I also think most people save way more junk than they really need anyways. Kind of like packrats for the computer age. You know, thousands of blurry pictures that aren't worth saving in the first place, a bunch of illegally downloaded videos that they will never have time to watch, songs they listened to once but didn't like, etc.

Interesting conundrum.

On one hand, these days storage is cheap, and only getting cheaper.
Bandwidth is generally increasing, although in fits and starts.

There's questions regarding IP and sharing of data.
There's also questions of anonymity.

If there is no billing (or is there going to be billing, but not to the beta testers?) how will the site pay for electricity, bandwidth etc etc etc.

Will this be something like rapidshare or megaupload?

I imagine that there's going to be a ton of porn, warez and terabytes (yottabytes?) of crap that will be on this.

I doubt that corporations and people worried about the security of their data will use it properly though, unless it's somehow hooked though the .mil or other 'service' organisational networks.
