so i restart my pc. screen comes up with the choice of win xp or ubuntu. i choose ubuntu. then it loads and requires a name and password. wth? what name and password?
everything i tried failed. so..what is the darn password and login name? frankly this is most frustrating.

Did you use version 7.04.04?

I've never used Wubi, but I would presume that during the installation process, you were asked to specify a user account name and password.

During the install it creates a username the same as the username of your Windows account and leaves a box for you to add a password. Try using your standard widows username with a blank password.

I have a variation on this problem. I've just installed from a user account name of paul.milligan which is a valid Windows username. Linux does not seem to like having dotted notation in names, so I can't login either!

For the *bright* sparks in this forum, is there a way round this other than de-install / re-install?

Hi Y'all!
the latest version that is downloadable, whatever that may be...jsut downloaded it 2 days ago..

i don't have a password on my pc. i left it open so my kids could use it.
this is really annoying.

i just wanted to get a bit of a feel for linux before i finally (if ever ) get any version to bloody well install on a small laptop i have.

oh and the "use name, leave pasword blank" no go. says "login failed"
no, it never asked me to set up a user login name or password.

[-o< help?

GOT IT!! it was a minor mistake i made. needless to say...wow. just wow.

i stand in awe of the beauty that is linux!!

seems as if folks took the best of wind-ho's , the best of Mac's, added a metric butt ton of common sense, and decided to do it all for free...

Gods i love the people who've all had a hand in making linux the GEM it is.

thanks folks!!
