For 64_bit 7.04?
I like bittornado, its in the repositories as bittornado-gui. Others like azureus, but I think its a resource hog.

Azureus is a ressource hog, but i have plenty of ressource! I still feel it is the best out there. If I remember well, you need to install the version 2.5 from the official webpage though. There are tons of good howto in the forum.

I couldn't get azureus to do anything but crash. My fave is ktorrent.

Got WINE?
Get uTorrent. It's a Windows executable, but even uTorrent itself states that it will work on WINE. It says it right there on their download page.
It really is a very small program, memory-footprint wise.
After installing it, for me the next logical step would be to configure it so that it works seamlessly with Firefox. It takes about 1 extra minute to do so, the howto is located here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=479095).
If you don't have WINE, I would second DirtDawg's suggestion for rTorrent.

Never heard about Deluge before. Been using Azureus but it's bloated and buggy. However, downloading is fast and for some reason bittorrent has always been very slow for me. Probably due to some faulty configuration from my part but still, I've never gotten it to work properly and therefore been stuck with Azureus. Checking out Deluge now. Looks really good. No java and about half memory usage compared to Azureus. Thanks for the tip.

IMHO the running of Windows applications is best only when there is not a good linux equivalent. Besides Windows applications look awful running with wine.

I've never used anything other than the built in Bittorrent client and have had no problems with it.
For multiple downloads just change the port range to 6881-6889 in gconf-editor apps>gnome-btdownload>settings.

Agreed, but for me there is no good Linux equivalent to uTorrent.

Lately I've been using azureus. I'm not too aware of any resource hogging that i might be doing but then again I've plenty of resources.
I used to be a bittornado user but I got drawn into the interface of azureus. It makes dealing with multiple torrents and throttling dl/up rate much easier.
And wouldn't running a windows app with wine consume more resources?

I've tried Azureus and uTorrent under wine. Deluge works perfectly for me. Fast, nice GUI and for some reasone I do get better speeds with it. Who knows ;) It just works and I like it.

i know that i can't use deluge it won't let it install saying a dependency isn't met. i went ahead and installed said dependency but it still won't install
I went on their forums and downloaded the gutsy version but still doesn't work.
I am running gutsy kubuntu btw

There is a specific version for gutsy in the forum not the download page and it works fine just make sure you have all the requirement satified check the source package for requirements. And I am using it currently works great best Linux based bittorrent client I have found.

i was looking at their forums and they updated it a while after i poster here, someone else posted their saying the dependency wasn't met. they rebuilt a packacke but every time i start it the program crashes.
oh well

I first downloaded their source package then read the readme and when thought and installed all the dependency listed a couple were newer versions like 1.34 vs 1.33. Then I tried to make the source and ran into the error about the dependancy not beeing met so I when though the fourms and found the tread about the problem with gusty. So I then downloaded that and installed it and been running fine since then.

Ktorrent! (http://ktorrent.org/)
You can adjust memory/resource usage, have anti-P2P filters, bandwidth scheduler, trackerless torrents, and all kinds of stuff. uTorrent fans should definitely check out ktorrent.

I use utorrent, but I would love to be able to use something native to linux. The problem is only utorrent gives me decent speeds, and I have no clue why. I open my ports correctly, adjust all the max connections etc, but only utorrent EVER goes over 5Kbps.

bittornado is the fastest ive come across. very light on resources and does what its suppose to do. dl torrents. you can also pick which files to dl first or not at all like other clients. it has port configurations, d/l folder configurations, and speed configurations. i do not see anything else that is necessary in a bt client. well, that is unless you want bloat.

Those people would be wrong. Now there are some of us who don't think that some of the features are bloat. For instance, I don't need deluge open 10 times to seed 10 different torrents, I can set it to have a maximum bandwidth that all torrents can use, prioritize torrents, and see everything in one window. I like having all of that in one window. Bloat to me would be included features that I don't use. But what do I know, I use Evolution.

Try rtorrent. Doesn't get any more streamlined than that.

You have to check out KTorrent, absolutely. Though for the gnome users there is deluge, and i have seen it has made a nice bump in development too!
