First off this is in the backyard cause I am pissed ?

why?

one word

Vista.

What the hell is going on at Microsoft. If you make operating systems for a living than wouldn't your first damn job be to make sure that it can run a F@#!@##$ program. That is what operating systems do... they go on your system so that you and run programs. I am not asking it to run my ktorrent I am want to to run my Windows software. Instead my "upgrade" to vista means that I can't run my Battlefield 2, Call of duty 2, and warcraft3 runs like crap. So now I have a brand new laptop that has roughly twice the power of my old system and does half as much and what it does do it sucks at.

for Christ sakes it can't even run Age of Empires and that is a g)D D@m Microsoft program. What next word will decide that it can't run .doc files.

I am open source all the way but the rest of the world is not and I like a good computer game I bought a new computer to play my old games with some better graphics and instead I just can't play them.

i do remember all the news reports and complaining customers after windows xp was released. i can remember complaints about there being a home and professional version as well. a LOT of the same complaints GLOBALLY heard about vista are very much like that i remember hearing back when xp was released. i don't know if major media is really covering vista issues but i remember local news reports about xp issues. i even remember one bit that they splash screened the microsoft system recommendations for upgrading.

i guess my point is that the parallels between the release of xp and vista are very similar. you see xp is the animal that many of us have had to deal with for many years and are use to it's ways. it'll just take a little time to get use to the new vista way.

remember, windows isn't about what you want to do. it's about what they want to make you think you should be doing.

hahaha

they think you should be buying a brand new $$$ machine and completely replace all of your software. c'mon..geez....that computer is at least a year old..geez....and that game is like 6 months old. get with the program. haha. they want you to change computers and software like you get new cell phones. ha

no when Linux upgrades its program is fixes errors, becomes more compatible with various hardware, and generally runs all existing programs better.

As far as I can tell all vista did was make a 3d desktop so that I could more easily scroll through all the error messages.

I would love to see a 3D cube with a bunch of blue screens!

I guess you could do that in Ubuntu with a bunch of Wine crashes. But, that's not a challenge.

Just install Windows in VirtualBox, wait for it to BSOD, then go fullscreen and take that cube screenshot. :p

I work as the new guy in a IT department so all of the crap jobs go to me. Its just the way of the noob. Last week I had to set up two very nice HP tablets that had Vista preinstalled. While going through the inital configuration (you know setting up your language and time zones and what not) I was clicking the buttons on the different laptops at the same time. One of the laptops SKIPPED a screen. I cannot remember what it was but the fact remains, Two side by side installs of an OS should look exactly the same.

BTW the skipped screen was not related to a previous screen like network setting or the such. I think it was account pix and suff like that but dont quote me on that

I don't buy it. Microsoft's quality control is among the best. You must have done something wrong. Didn't the little popup bubble tell you that?
:D

I was was running a lan party with the game and although it ran the vista machine kept crashing the network. it also didn't allow for maximum screen resolution. So I was taking a little liscence.

Yes, I might have done something wrong. This was my first time installing Vista. But there was no notification that I had done anything wrong. No bubble or anything. Later after installing I was closing a window and as soon as my mouse touched the close button every thing but the desktop disappeared for a second and came right back and the mouse had moved itself to the center of the screen. I restarted and logged onto the account that we were useing as the Adminisrtator. My taskbar looked like a 9x taskbar and I did not have any Adimnistrator privliges. A simple restart fixed this problem but still.

I tried Vista... for 5 minutes. When I found out that A) my soundcards 3d and surround sound were disabled, B) SLI is not possible (ever), and C) it ran like crap, I immediately restored my XP image. For me, XP is the end of the line.
I also have qualms with the way microsoft uses my computer in Vista. It's my computer. I'm the user. The OS is not supposed to use the system except accomplish what I want. :) Vista... I might as well send my computer to Redmond, postage paid.
For those who have gotten games to run(and run well) in Vista, I applaud you. You're herculean might has somehow rastled the operating system to do something it was designed to prohibit.
Vista = Digital Prohibition
