There are some interesting developments in China. There are several very inexpensive computers running several versions of Linux.
One's called "yellowsheep river" and their "municator" is $150! I think it now runs "thinix" while previously it ran a Linux called "miss dragon"

Another is called "sinomanic". These are also laptops in the $250 range! I think I will have a Chinese friend read the site for me and see how to get my hands on one of these.

Their OS is called "futurealpha".
You also have probably heard about the Asus eee pc 701. That's made in Taiwan.

I'm tired of the bottom feeder budget Linux Computers.

I'm looking for a High-End Linux computer that I can spend $3000 or more on.

I'm guessing those computers fall apart very easily though.

Not everyone lives in a first world country with a unlimited budget. This brings PCs to the lower income groups and possibly provides net access wich is a very good thing imho.

Just look at the OLPC initiative - no-one would bash the principles behind that, would they?

But seriously what kind of hardware can you expect, they probably using real old P2 styled chip design with god know how imperfect chip wafers.. I bet there chip failure rate at the plant is over 15%

Yes I have heard of building your own but that would be very hard for the next computer I plan to purchase:

Which would either be the Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 (http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=T2010) or the Fujitsu LifeBook T4220 (http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=T4220) both of which are Convertibles(converts from a notebook to a tablet) with active digitizers. I have yet to hear of anyone building a convertible on their own.

My Ubuntu Linux is running on a Compaq laptop that has worse specs than the Chinese computers. I also think that if I tried to buy my used laptop on Ebay it would also cost about $250. But, the Chinese one would be faster, lighter and cooler. (as in surfing is cool).

Personally I would love a lightweight laptop to carry when I travel, and I don't need it to be able to burn dvds, make movies, etc. I need it for word processing, email, web, etc.
