...I got my computer savy, 100% MS loving, Linux 'hating' dad to move to Linux, and do away with Windows for good :D
It's about time, took a lot to get him to finally decide Linux was better. Now, teaching him Linux... the hard part begins XD

Fantastic work! Theere is one thing, however, that would make it even better...is your dad by any chance Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer?

Nah, but if I moved him, Gates is next ;)
@poofy: If I can ever comprehend exactly how I did it... :P

You must have used some form of selling point, or else; "why switch?"

Nice work qalimas,
switching somebody over does take time thats for sure, what i noticed with my mom was over time showing her how Ubuntu deals with some of the things she hates in windows. ie. modem connections, IE vs. firefox, gaim vs. yahoo/msn... and the big seller was pluging in her usb cam and it's storage automounting on the desktop... I can honestly say I didn't use any pressure tactics. hehe

My mom's on Ubuntu now. I switched an old box when I was home on vacation.
All she does anyway is play card games, listen to Lenny Cohen and Bob Marley and occasionally surf the net to pay bills and read some newspapers. I cleaned up the default desktop and added a forecast-desklet and a starterbar. No problems so far!
Meanwhile my dad is on a somewhat new XP box that is already showing signs of the windows disease. He is next on my list. I just have to figure out what he needs.

Hey; I would really appreciate a howto :-)
especially for those hard-headed friends who are too afraid to look outside. . .
