I have tried to find similar issues on the forums here but to no avail so I am asking here.

I am trying to help my brother in-law out with his laptop I gave him with Ubuntu on it. I put Ubuntu on it due to Windows XP not working very well at all on it(slow, crashing, etc).

Anyways, he is trying to play counter-strike in steam and gets disconnected a minute or two after connecting to a server. I believe the issue is related to the anti-cheat system built into counter-strike detecting wine as a cheating system but am not sure. I had him try to play on a server that didn't have the anti-cheat system and it worked fine.

There are such few servers that don't have anti-cheat so I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and if so do they know of a solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was just looking at WineHQ, and there doesn't appear to be any issues reported with VAC2.

http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3731

I can't check Cedega's site since it's blocked at work.

Of course, WINE's ability to run CS:S can change at any update...maybe Valve did something to the VAC2 code.

Wine doesn't like anti-cheat downloading and loading.

Just don't play the games that you have to pay monthly payments because they might banned you right off thinking that you are using a hacking tools. Such as WoW and maybe some others online games as well.

I believe the WoW thing is fixed. It runs just fine in WINE, Cedega, Crossover.....
