Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but I was thinking about something last night that I think would be quite neat.

How about a aquarium type desktop - where you can have a pet living within your desktop. NOT JUST FISH

categories could be; snake, hamster, lizards, frogs, fish, even a little tux penguin.

The whole desktop is converted to a home for your little buddy, just like the tamogotchi thing, but inside your desktop - what got me thinking about this what the cube for compiz - its the perfect home for a little creature.

Feed them etc etc.... what ever you want to do with it..
drop in some flies for the frogs and watch as they fly around until they get eaten up by the frogs or chameleon....

manipulate their living environment create ponds, grow plants, etc etc...

what do you guys think?
Im not sure how to do it, but Im sure someone has some brains to get it going... I can create 3d models of the little critters.

would be a cool accessory :)

really nice idea! should be workable... I have seen e16 having waves & ripples kind of effect on the desktop and e17 having stars twinkling... so this would really be a great step forwards to "LIVE DESKTOPS"

kudos jurgen :D

I'd love to put a hamster or mouse in there but the cats may damage the screen getting to it. :lolflag:

I have thought about this too. It would be really nice.
It does sound very advanced in my ears, but I don't know much about creating stuff like this. If it is possible, I would be glad to help with graphics, 2d and 3d. :D

advanced is not a problem for the linux community! just take a look at what we have achieved so far :)

in the end a project is a project.... it has alpha, beta, stable stages
What we need is to get a team together, any suggestions on where to look for programmers? / get this idea out to those with an idea of how it might be implemented.

ATM we have full hardware xgl support on the desktop - so the hard work has been done for us.

I just came across a WinXP application similar to what we are thinking... So it is definitely practical... Here is the link to the site
