Hi, I have found a way to use realtime transparency for the Gnome panels at the top and bottom of the screen. Instead of the panels copying the wallpaper, you can now move things behind the panel and it updates in realtime.

All you have to do is:

1.install compizfusion (http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-Compiz-Fusion-on-Ubuntu-58113.shtml) or beryl.

2.Click on a blank area of the panel.

3.Hold down the ALT and scroll the mouse wheel.

This makes compizfusion/beryl apply the transparency to the panels.

You might already know this but I thought I'd share because I was so pleased to get rid of the horrible transparency where it just copies the wallpaper.

Enjoy.
