View Full Version : How many Computers do you have and what OS is on each one ?
August 21st, 2011, 02:25 PM
One Ubuntu Machine,
Two Windows machines You lay them on their side, unplugged of course, for foot stools they work best that way and never need any updating or anti-virus...

1) "Drunk Computer". Used for videos and such. Mythbuntu. Called such because I spilled some white wine (not the compatibility layer, but the kind with a cork, Riesling IIRC) on it so now it smells vaguely of wine when I boot it up.
2) Lappy64: Ubuntu 11.04. Unity doesn't look too bad on 1920x1080.
3) Desktop Monster: Win7, FreeBSD. Six cores for six times the fun!
4) Apple Mac 2: System 4.1. It boots, and is my favorite Apple product.

I've got 4 in use and a few others that I haven't decided what to do with.
1) Main comp: Phenom II X4 - Ubuntu 11.04 / Windows 7
2) Laptop: Athlon II - Ubuntu 11.04 / Windows 7
3) Print/web/whatever server: Pentium III Coppermine - Ubuntu 10.10
4) Mum's EeePC netbook - Windows XP
5) Old comp: Pentium 4 Northwood - Ubuntu 11.04. Maybe I'll use it as a media server.
6) Old comp: Pentium III-S Tualatin - No OS yet, most likely will be Ubuntu or I could use it to play with other distros.

How many Computers do you have and what OS is on each one ?
I'll answer later
i used to have a lot and then it was down to a laptop and tower and now it's just a tower. looks like i'm going the wrong direction.
October 10th, 2011, 04:49 PM
Mac mini, Intel, 1st gen: Mac OS 10.5.9
MacBook Pro: Mac OS 10.5.9
Gateway MT6850: Ubuntu 11.04
October 10th, 2011, 09:40 PM
Main computer: A used Sony Vaio. I don't like Sony, but I got it as a trade-in after two defective Toshibas. A major issue has been the malfunctioning Alps Glidepoint, but that's finally patched. Runs Ubuntu 11.04 w/classic. Also runs Windows.
Secondary computer: An older Macbook. I got it 3 1/2 years ago and Apple had already discontinued the model. Runs Mac OS 10.6.
I had stayed with Apple because a lot of my work was in Appleworks. I finally switched to OpenOffice, even though it can't read Appleworks, and decided to switch to Ubuntu for my next computer, and decided to switch while the old computer was still working.
Netbook: An Efika. Runs Ubuntu 10.10. Cannot run 11.04.
October 10th, 2011, 10:57 PM
Main Computer - Ubuntu 11.04
Laptop - Fedora 15
Desktop (first computer I've built myself!) - Windows XP, soon to be dualbooting Linux Mint once I upgrade the RAM
Other desktop - Windows 7
October 11th, 2011, 01:10 AM
1. desktop running Natty 11.04, hoping to also run Windows XP if I can work out the bugs. First one I built, too
2. laptop with Windows 7
3. old G4 Emac that will run some form of Ubuntu exclusively (again, bugs to be worked out)
4. desktop running Vista.
But this configuration will change. I'll dual boot all the PCs with Ubuntu once I get a clue. I will be installing an Ubuntu server at some point, not sure which machine will get that job. I'd love to also set up a Windows server, but I'm cheap and Windows is not. :D

Compaq Laptop, bought in 2010, Win-7
-used purely for business, printing, scanning, accounting
Toshiba Satellite laptop, bought in 2006, dual-boot WinXP, Ubuntu 10.04LTS
-used for media, browsing, videos and youtube, only using Ubuntu. I've only booted XP twice, just out of curiosity that it was still there and still worked
Have three other tower computers, not being used, might plug one in as a server and backup storage...using Ubuntu because that's what I'm familiar with right now. I might use one as a Mythbuntu PVR, or using the Ubuntu Studio for vid editing...dunno!
October 15th, 2011, 03:29 AM
One fully owned by none other than me: Dual boot Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7.
Laptop that was "given to me to use" but is effectively mine: Ubuntu 11.04 or 10.04 (I'm in the process of reformatting it at the moment).
Rented VPS: Ubuntu Server 10.04.
Not sure if the rented VPS counts, so I voted two in the poll.

2 off HP DC7600 CMT, 3.06 GHz, 2GB DDR2 1TB Samsung HD103SJ SATA HD
Both of these PCs are running Ubuntu 11.10 x64 PERFECTLY! They previously ran 11.04, and 10.10 - also flawlessly. Really quiet PCs, built like the proverbial, and pretty fast too. Got them both for £65 on EBay a year ago with 80GB drives which I upgraded to 1TB. Who needs the latest and greatest?
I use these for working from home.
I use a HP LP2475W monitor with these (Resolution = 1920 by 1200). Using the VGA port, I've get an excellent picture which I cannot differentiate from one generated by a DVI source. (Must be that the VGA output from the PC, plus the input electronics on the monitor which are both perfect).
The DC7600 is an excellent choice for Ubuntu 11.10, and anyone wanting to have a play on a budget (or simply want to spend their money on something else!), just buy a cheap one from Ebay...You will NOT be disappointed!
I also have a 1 off home brew PC based on ASRock K7S41GX with 2.2GHz Sempron, 1GB DDR1, 80GB PATA. Now running Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit (as from yesterday). Very usable if not as fast as the HPs!

I should add on my earlier post that I don't have any microsoft operating systems on any of my computers. I do have wine though, just of the fun of it - don't have any programs to run on it (other than Lord of the Rings online)
I have puppy & aircrack on 2 separate SD 4Gb cards I can boot from, also I have mandriva, pinguy, slitaz and tails on a 8Gb thumb drive and funduntu, fedora, and a few others on another 8Gb thumb drive, so whenever I feel like variety, I can just reboot with one of my removable drives and enjoy some other completely different distro! :-) I haven't used any microsoft on any of my computers since 2003 - never looked back, and never had an occasion to require any closed source software in all that time. And I don't just read email and websurf either! I'm the local area computer fixer
Linux is good - no doubt about it!
October 27th, 2011, 01:46 AM
8 if I remember correct,
I work on computers and enjoy building computers for fun and for friends.
IBM 770 Thinkpad; Windows 98 SE and SUSE Linux (had two HDDs so one OS on each), Puppy 4.00 off the CD.
IBM I series 1500 Thinkpad; Windows 98 SE (mother used it to print Church library labels for books).
Dell D-610 Latitude Windows XP Pro, and Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, Puppy 5.0.1 off the CD (this my work/camping computer).
HP G60 445DX; Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx (it what I use now and for relaxing times, not work).
Compaq C762NR Presario; Windows Vista (needed windows Vista for my computer work), about to give this to a friend once I finish clean install and all the updates.
Home Brewed; Asus A8R32 mobo; Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron (yet another play time).
Home Brewed; Foxcon M61PMV mobo; Windows 7 (needed windows 7 for my computer work).
Emachines T2595; Windows XP Pro and Debian 5.0 (it was free and for playing).

At the moment only one, a Core 2 Quad Q9400 based system with 8GB RAM and a GTX 550Ti 1GB video card.
At the moment, it's running:
Windows Vista Home Premium x64 w/SP2
Linux Mint Debian XFCE x86-64, kernel 22.214.171.124
Gentoo Linux x86-64, currently kernel 3.0.6 (planning to run an emerge once I get home; there is a kernel update waiting). I really enjoyed getting Gentoo going.
Might try Arch when I get a lappy (hopefully for Christmas).
I'm pretty knowledgeable in both 'doze and Linux (I actually made update discs last Windows reinstall so that I'm not pulling so many updates over the again next time). Also thinking of getting a refurbed desktop as a fallback machine (I volunteer at a place that does this sort of thing. They put XP and Office 2003 on these).
October 29th, 2011, 03:21 PM
1: was Ubuntu 11.04, I upgraded to 11.10 did not like it, can't find 11.04 to go back to so now back at 10.04 LTS

3: Ubuntu 10.04-Server
4: My webserver that I am working on now is Ubuntu 8.04-server
5: had Ubuntu 10.10 ( now dead PS)
6: had Winblows XP Pro ( now dead MB)

Recently trashed 3 paperweights, hopeing to save #s 5, 6, and 7 to make more servers.
October 29th, 2011, 04:50 PM
I voted 4 or 5, though that's only counting the computers that are functional. I've got probably 5 more in my basement in various states of disrepair.
1: Dual Boot Ubuntu 11.10 (running XFCE)/WinXP SP3 Pentium Dual Core
2: Windows 7 laptop with a Core i5 that I use for work
3: Dell D-600 laptop running Lubuntu 11.10 with a Centrino proc.
4: pfSense firewall with a Pentium 4.
5 WinXP P4 box in the living room serving as a low end media center for streaming Netflix to the TV.

AMD 6-core desktop 16GB RAM Nvidia GTX260 - running Gentoo XFCE, however, I have 5 other distros installed for testing.
Intel i7 laptop 8GB RAM Intel HD 3000 - running Gentoo XFCE, but dual-booting with Ubuntu 11.10.
AMD Athlon X2 4GB RAM integrated Nvidia 7300 - mostly as a file server, currently with Gentoo, but I am thinking of switching to Debian.
Up until recently I had another 4-core AMD desktop with Gentoo+XFCE and a Pentium-Dual-Core Laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 (Gnome 2 more). I am thinking about getting a new desktop with either i7 (6-cores) or AMD FX (8-cores), if I do, I will put Gentoo XFCE.

It's actually sad the number of computers I own. Between work and home I have 13 computers.
(2) MacBook Pro's
(4) PC's running various Ubuntu distro's
(2) Ubuntu headless servers (one at home and one at work)
(2) XP boxes
(1) Netbook running WinXP
(1) HTPC running XP
(1) HTPC (now building) that will run Win7
The XP machines are still running Windows because the people using them refuse to change :( Otherwise, I'd have no Win based machines other than my HTPC. Once my new HTPC build is finished, the old HTPC will be setup in my office running Ubuntu.
I even have two desktops that aren't even hooked up so I'm not counting them.
December 29th, 2011, 07:00 PM
I thought I was pretty bad with 7 machines:
Main desktop - Windows 7
Testing desktop - Windows 7/Ubuntu/CentOS/Whatever I want to use on it
Netbook - Windows 7/BackTrack 5
Laptop - Windows 7
Parent's Desktop - Windows 7
Parent's Laptop - Windows 7
Server = Ubuntu
I have quite a few VMs running some form of *nix, but those don't count, right? :p

4 Computers - All of them with Ubuntu or Xubuntu, 3 of them with manufacturer installed Windows to which we obviously added the dual-boot functionality ... of which two of them never get booted into Windows at all. Had to keep it that way for warranty purposes though. They're all laptops too, for conserving energy.
We used to have 5 computers but recently I purchased a "monster laptop" with 8 GB of ram, HDMI, and USB 3.0 which now runs all of my computing needs while also serving as a total 10 speaker multimedia entertainment system in our livingroom. The remote control is a wireless keyboard/mouse combo of course.
Gotta love Linux !!! :D
February 9th, 2012, 03:51 AM
I only have 9 going at the moment - have about 20 others that need TLC - switch mem chips hard drives etc. The company I work for used to donate their older pc's to first employee who asked for them - mostly Dell 745's but I have 4 laptops including a touchscreen HP - Use Ubuntu 11.10 exclusively on mine - kids' have linux and windows (easier for them to make itunes work is the only reason I use windoze)
1. Kitchen - Dell 745 3GB Ubuntu 11.10 19" flatscreen - this one comes in handy for recipes, or kids use it to show me things while I'm cooking
2. My Bedroom - Dell 745 3GB Ubuntu 11.10 42" flatscreen - suspended from ceiling above bed - wireless kb/mouse - you can run this one from under covers - I love it!!!
3. Kid 1 Bedroom Computer - Dell 745 1GB with 26" flatscreen, Ubuntu 11.10 - serves double duty as XBox display, as well.
4. Kid 1 laptop - HP netbook, Win XP, 8 hour battery life (great for car trips)
5. Kid 2 Bedroom Computer - Dell 745, 2GB, Win 7-64, Ubuntu 11.10, 21" Flatscreen (upgrading to 42" Toshiba soon)
6. Kid 2 Laptop - HP 14" Notebook, 4GB, Ubuntu 11.10 - 64
7. HTPC (Family room) - Dell 755, 4GB, 80GB O/S (Ubuntu 11.10, with XBMC and Macbuntu theme) - this one is also the family media server (Samba), utilizing (2) 2000GB configured as Raid 1 Array. This one has 7.1 soundcard hooked to surround system (using optical cable) and 1GB Radeon video card, hooked to NEC NP-100 Projector (only 800x600 but works really well for movies and web-cruising) - I use bluetooth mini kb to control it - works awesome - It has all MAME games, Dolphin Wii emulator, Nintendo 64, and Playstation 1 and 2 emulators.
8. My laptop (1) - HP TX2-us1020 - 4GB, 320GB, running ubuntu 11.10 - this one, as morbid as it sounds, works great as a "sitting on the pot" PC - I like having internet access when my best ideas arise!
9. My netbook (2) - Compaq netbook, ubuntu 11.10 / win xp (keep XP on this one mainly for IE which works better with some web-enabled configurations on certain devices)
All desktop pc's are networked with ethernet cable. All laptops are networked with wifi. All computers have the ability to stream movies and music from not only our family server, but my neighbors 2000GB server as well (5 blocks away, using Ubiquiti NS2) and all have hi-speed internet (wireless on laptops) sharing 3Mbps DSL. Also, all PC's have healthy clones of hard drives kept in safe place so we don't get worried too much about virii or hardware failures. I spent about 6 months getting this system up to speed.
Kids each have ipod touch with wifi, I have Kindle DX with whispernet. I should note that there are NEVER any arguments about "he messed up my computer" or "it's my turn, DAD!"
Also note: even tech-savvy kids are happy with older hardware as long as it's fast. Ubuntu runs soooo much smoother and faster than windows, allowing older hardware to seem new again. I even installed it on my elderly mother's PC - she loves it and hasn't looked back.

2 desktops. One runs a naked ubuntu as an FTP server and the other dual boots between windows for gaming and ubuntu for everything else.
4 laptops. One runs XBMC linux-style that I use as a media center. One runs Ubuntu. The other runs ubuntu, and the last runs ubuntu lol
April 2nd, 2012, 08:51 PM
I've got 2 laptops, 3 desktops
1 netbook LGX11, Windows XP / Ubuntu 11.10
1 laptop HP Pavilion with Windows Vista (I only use it when I have to, I have to say I HATE VISTA!)
I used to have a super old computer (for the sake of it, I can't remember the model now!) it used to run Windows 95, then 98 and it stayed with crappy ME until its 'death'. I wonder if I could put Linux on it one day.
April 8th, 2012, 05:42 PM
HP Dv7 laptop Dual boot Kubuntu/Win7
Asus Eee netbook Win 7
2 AMD/Nvidia based desktops 1 running Mythbuntu the other Win7

1 i build with my friend from scratch running Ubuntu Server 11.10 upon which i set up a custom gui that perfectly suits my needs and likings
1 running Ubuntu Server 11.10 as my server
1 running Ubuntu Server 11.10 with lubuntu-desktop as testing pc to do compiles and serve as a host for taking stuff with me
1 laptop dualbooting win vista (juck, but the games man!) and Lubuntu 11.10
1 laptop win7 as that's mandated by my school
1 desktop with a fried psu and no hd (though i have a mirror of the test pc on a seperate hd in my hd mountain that's ready to rock and roll) because it used to pxeboot before the psu fried
1. IBM PS/1 Model 2121 with pc-dos 4.01 and win 3.0 (i'm planning on getting linux to run on it)
I probably have another pc worth of parts.
I also have modded an old Sony ps2 slim to run PS2 Linux
And a Nintento DS Original with DSLinux
I should have some more things here that i can't think of right now.

-The veteran is an Amstrad PC 512 with no hard disk operating with DR Dos3 and GEM !
-The dinosaur runs at 300 mhz with a maximum of 256 mb RAM, still able to swallow a great numbers of distros and able to surf without hard disk ! I do not forget it for an install party ;)
- A desktop with dual core intel proc 2.5 ghz, 1 Tb disk 4 gb RAM fiited with:
Hybryde EldoradOS 11.10
Hybryde Evolution 12.04 both clones of Ubuntu with 10 environments (Hybryde, KDE, Gnome 3, Gnome, Unity, LXDE, XFCE, Open Box and FVWM) you can have access without rebooting !
- A bare AMD motherboard 850 mhz, 512 mb RAM accepting all distros
- A small server 2.6 ghz 1 core 1 gb RAM accepting all distros
- A Clevo laptop 2 ghz, 2 gb RAM purchased naked (hard to find) with Hybryde EldoradOS 11.10. everything is compatible, who said tha there are always compatibility problems with Linux ?
And 18 IDE hard disks plugged a random, withour forgetting 110 distros on CDs.

Well, I figure this list is out of date...
I now have 4.5 Computers...
Still got the Core I7-920 it's been upgraded a bit
Windows 7pro, Ubuntu 11.10, and Windows 8rc(Don't you judge me)
The AMD K6-2 and the AMD Athelon XP2000 computers have finally passed away.
I have a sandybridge pentium HTPC
Windows7 Pro (Only because I need the DRM)
HP Touchsmart laptop
Windows 8rc, Ubuntu 11.10
Still got the Gateway M275 laptop.
It will be running Ubuntu 12.4 once I can get it to upgrade properly. Probably going to have to install 10.4 then do upgrade to get it installed.
I said 4.5 because right now I'm on a Droid 4 running Ubuntu 10.04 on my Lapdock 500. Works like a computer, not sure if it counts.
Desktop - AMD Athelon XP 2000
Windows XP, Ubuntu 8.04, Windows 7 beta
Desktop - Intel Core i7
Ubuntu 9.04(64), Windows 7 RC(64), Windows XP(32)
Desktop - AMD K6-2 350
MSDos 6.0, Windows 3.11 (This thing is great fun. I set it up so I could use a remote login from my wifes laptop to play my old games like Commander Keen and Wolfenstien 3d. I keep it running for nostalgia mostly.)
Laptop - Gateway M275
Laptop - HP dv9000 core2duo
Windows Vista(32) (Wife's computer)
The OSs are listed in order of most used. I have a few other operating systems in Virtual Machines on a few of these but those are just for testing purposes.
April 24th, 2012, 11:10 AM
I have tre comps.
And all is runing ubuntu.
April 24th, 2012, 11:20 AM
I have an HP Pavilion Elite 410y with a six core AMD Phenom CPU, 8 GB of RAM, a 1 GB AMD Graphics Card (Redwood), 1 TB HDD, and dual-booting Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. It's hooked up to my Vizio TV via HDMI.
My other desktop is a ZaReason Breeze 3110 with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom, 1 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, Intel GMA 950 graphics. It currently dual boots Windows 8 Consumer Preview and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
My portable is an HP Pavilion dv7-4069wm with a triple core AMD Phenom CPU, 4 GB RAM, AMD Mobility Radeon 4200 (for power saving purposes), an AMD Mobility Radeon 5000 series GPU with 512 MB of RAM (for more graphics power... can not get Catalyst to switch over to it in Ubuntu), two 320 GB HDDs, wide screen, and BluRay drive. It dual boots Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Now I could have another powerful desktop, but I need to make sure the motherboard actually works.

April 28th, 2012, 09:08 PM
In my house we have 7 computers total. In my room I have 5.
The ones in my room:
Gaming PC: Windows 7 Home Premium dualboot with Ubuntu 12.04
Old family PC (now my alarm clock and running a Minecraft server): Ubuntu 11.10
Dell Latitude CSx (a friend gave this to me cuz he was gonna throw it out): no OS currently
Acer Aspire One ZG5/AOA150: Windows 7 Ultimate (pirated as my netbook can't run Windows well and I'm not gonna pay $300 for an OS for my netbook), and Ubuntu 12.04 (I used to have Arch Linux on there as well)
Macbook Pro: OS X Lion and Windows 7 Home Premium (the key doesn't work so I need to buy Windows again for that (also pirating Windows for a Mac is impossible :P or at least hard to do)). I plan to get Ubuntu 12.04 on there eventually, but it's really hard to do for some reason
The ones not in my room:
The family PC: Windows 7 Home Premium
My dad's laptop: Windows 7 Home Premium
May 5th, 2012, 02:44 PM
Three computers - all dual boot.
1. An old Asus Tualitin with XP and Ubuntu 11.10. With only 512mRam the XP struggles, but the Ubuntu is quite nice.
2. A Toshiba NB150 with W7 Starter and Ubuntu netbook 10.04. It works quite well except that the special funcions require I go into W7 as Toshiba refuses to give out BIO hooks to Linux. Buy yourself an ASUS and get a complete solution.
3. A 64bit Intel Quad maching with Ubuntu 11.4 32bit and a Chinese version of Windows Vista 32bit. Not ready to migrate over to 64bit as Adobe and Skype have had some problems with 64bit Linux.
I open up and clean out the dust on my desktop machines. This adds substantial to the longevity of a computer as dust builds up heat.
May 17th, 2012, 11:17 PM
Desktop: Lubuntu 12.04, Lubuntu 11.10, SolusOS 1.0, AriOS 3.0
Netbook: Lubuntu 12.04, Lubuntu 11,10, Mint LMDE, SolusOS 1.0
May 17th, 2012, 11:43 PM
1. Desktop running 10.04
2. Laptop running 12.04 (mate desktop)
i assume only boxes that i took out of service and have taken the hdd out of are not to be counted
May 18th, 2012, 04:35 AM
2 computers, 1 laptop.
Main/general use computer is running XP, my computer is dual booting Ubuntu 11.10 and XP Pro. Wifes laptop is running Windows 7.
May 18th, 2012, 08:51 AM
I have 3 now (netbook, laptop, android) if you consider my smartphone as a computer. (I do) I gave up my desktop to my friend, who appreciates it.

One acer running both win and ubuntu (though i almost never boot win and i'm typing this from).
One old ibm ps/1 running dos and win 3.0 (and some addicting games)
One Packard Bell with win7 for all my school work.
And the rest are built from hw i pull from old computers people give me and all run ubuntu server with a gui customised on it.
May 18th, 2012, 02:55 PM
Only one, but it's a good one, purpose-built and running Ubuntu 10.10 at present, but considering switching to 12.04 (or dual-boot) once I've done a bit of "housekeeping" to ensure I don't lose any wanted files.
Asus P6X58D-E motherboard
6 GB RAM
Main hard drive 750 GB
Second hard drive 1 TB
2 DVD re-writers
When I found myself in the fortunate position of being able to afford a really good machine, I didn't want $eattle $pyware (Windoze) anywhere near it, and that's the best decision I ever made. It took a few months to get used to a totally unfamiliar operating system (Ubuntu), but I wouldn't go back to "that other system", which I consider inferior in nearly every way.
I'm a total convert to Ubuntu, and "spread the word" (and installation CDs) to anyone who'll listen.
May 18th, 2012, 03:49 PM
Our family currently has 5 computers, but only one running Ubuntu. The others are on Vista, Windows 7 or Windows XP. Eventually more may have Ubuntu installed once the family starts to understand just how well it runs. But for now, I am the only one.
May 18th, 2012, 07:53 PM
i have 4
main desktop dual wind 7 ubuntu
May 19th, 2012, 02:37 AM

May 19th, 2012, 03:41 AM
I have one, an old hand-me-down Dell Dimension, inherited from an awesome boy who left it to me. It had Xubuntu Lucid on it when he passed it on to me. Now it runs Xubu Precise! The two of us had explored Linux on it together because we heard it was good for older computers.
It's still my only computer but I use it for everything! School, work, e-mail, UF (yay) and other favorite sites, and some music and photo edits and such. It does everything I ever did on my family's Windows XP machine, only faster!
May 19th, 2012, 03:45 AM

asus eeepc 901 (lubuntu 12.04 + ubuntu 12.04 minimal)
May 20th, 2012, 11:33 PM
In random order:
- Core i5-2500K based gaming machine (Vista Home Premium), codename "Cougar",
- Athlon64-based main computer (Ubuntu 10.04, Xubuntu 10.04, XP Home), codename "Athlon",
- modded HP Vectra VL420, of which only the CPU and cooler are original (XP Home), codename "Vectra",
- Samsung R519 laptop (Vista Home Basic),
- Compaq Armada E500 (that's PIII 500 MHz), XP Professional, codename "Armada",
- iMac G5, (PowerPC), running OS X 10.4 "Tiger", codename "iMac",
- a "dismantled" PIII 450 MHz that was running Windows ME.
I guess that makes 6 (6-and-a-half?)
July 3rd, 2012, 08:20 PM

With a Windows XP, Windows 7 'n Ubuntu 12.04
July 4th, 2012, 12:38 AM
I have 2 laptops
Ubuntu 12.04 on the one I use.
Windows 7 on the one my wife uses.
July 4th, 2012, 03:39 AM
2 laptops; one is my wifes, running Windows 7. The other is mine, an older laptop from around 2005, running Lubuntu 12.04
And 2 desktops; an older Dell machine from around 2003 running Windows XP, which is the general use machine for the household. And another desktop, which is pretty much a Home Theatre box, connected to a projector, and running Ubuntu 12.04 (it's also running Windows XP Pro, which hasn't been touched for months. I'm dreading booting to it really, i know there'll be a ton of updates!)
Interesting that the poll results are mostly very even.
July 5th, 2012, 05:02 AM
(it's also running Windows XP Pro, which hasn't been touched for months. I'm dreading booting to it really, i know there'll be a ton of updates!)
I know exactly what you mean :)
Three running Ubuntu 12.04
One running Kubuntu 12.04.
1. Dual boot Kubuntu 12.04/Win7
1. Dual book Kubuntu 12.04/Win Vista and VM WinXP (work reasons)
1. Debian 6
This doesn't include an ASUS Transformer, Blackberry Playbook and three smart phones (Samsung Galaxy S2, Nokia n97, Blackberry Torch)
The Win7 and Vista partitions are rarely run. The Win XP VM is used a couple of days a week.
I have to make myself run the Win 7 partition as I *know* it'll be a pain if I don't do it when I *don't* need it and then have to install a gazillion updates when I do :)
July 5th, 2012, 11:27 PM
I love this game:
main machine is a Dell E4300 laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate on it.
I use it for work mainly.
Backup / surfing computer is a Dell optiplex 745 running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
kids both use IBM T60's with Ubuntu 11.04 (the kids are 4&5)
wife has a Dell something with Win 7 home premium.
July 8th, 2012, 09:45 AM
1. Ubuntu 12.04 and 11.04
2. Currently unused, with Vista and Maverick Meerkat...
July 8th, 2012, 12:45 PM
My old pc runs Ubuntu 12.04, it's the one I use the most. I think I've had it for 4-5 years now. It's a Packard Bell Imedia something. Only costs I ever had was replacing the fan (5 bucks).
The last 6 months I bought 2 computers, both with Windows 7.
One is a laptop I don't really use much, more for people who come over to use. The new desktop with Win7 is purely for gaming.
Gave up on consoles after my 3rd PS3 died and every single time Sony refused to repair or replace for free. They ask 200 euro I believe to repair a PS3.
July 8th, 2012, 02:52 PM
One desktop Asus A8N-SLI computer with Fedora, and (hopefully) Netrunner. (Plan to upgrade to an Asus Z77 board.)
Dell Dimension 8200 with XP on it, and now i'm gonna be installing Lubuntu as I got a new printer that has Linux drivers, (previous one did not.)
Lenovo 3000 N100 with W7 Ubuntu dual-boot.

Salvaged & repaired store brand, Pentium 4, Ubuntu 10.04
Salvaged store brand, Pentium 4, Kubuntu 12.04, rebuild nearly done
Dell desktop, Pentium V, with Windows XP Pro
Asus Eee with Windows XP
HP 14 inch laptop with Windows XP [plan to change to Kubuntu 12.04]
HP 17 inch "laptop" with Windows XP Pro [plan to change to Kubuntu 12.04]
Gateway desktop to be salvaged - need to rebuild this one so I can use some old legacy devices (tape drive, ZIP drive, SyQuest drive, 3.5 and 5.25 inch floppies, etc.). I believe this has Windows 98; I plan to try a minimal Lubuntu install on it.
Aaack! I didn't realize I had so many until I started listing them! And that doesn't even account for my Nook Color or my smartphone!
#1 is the one I am using now; as soon as #2 is ready it will become my main one; #1 will be gutted and reborn as a server. #3 will stay as a Windows box as long as possible, in the interest of domestic tranquillity. For #5 I will have to do careful planning, as it is my travelling work computer. After converting to Linux, I may have to also reinstall Windows in a VM - which means I have to learn about slipstreaming to make an up-to-date install disk.
It's a good thing I'm semi-retired!

32 bit gaming rig...
Yeah-because gaming rigs are future-proofed with <4 GB of RAM.
I'm assuming it is the motherboard that has imposed these limitations of <4 GB of RAM.
