1- my desktop - Linux Mint, with a Win2000 partition that is rarely used, and 2 partitions for distro experimentation, one with Arch and one waiting for Ubuntu 8.10

2 - my wife's desktop - Ubuntu 8.04

3 - laptop - Windows Vista, tried installing Mint as dual-boot, but couldn't get the WiFi working, and for what we use the laptop for, Vista is fine.

I have one right now (IBM thinkpad T43 running at 1.86GHz, 1.5GB of ram, and 40GB of HD, ATI X300 64MB dedicated), but will hopefully have 2 soon >_> It will be about 3-4 times more powerful than this honey. But I love my TP. It is like an old tractor, might no be fast, but it can take a pounding and keep on going (literally). I think I have dropped this think at least a dozen times and nothing has broken even with the thing one O_O

1) Desktop - Intrepid/Hardy/XP
2) Laptop - Hardy/XP
3) NAS - QNAP TS-209 running some unknown version of Linux. Technically it's classed as a NAS, but it's also a webserver, media server, has a torrent client, etc. So it's basically a computer in it's own right.

Plus we have a crusty old desktop in the hall cupboard with XP and, er, probably something of about Dapper vintage.

1. Main PC (Kubuntu 8.04) - used for everything!
2. MediaServer (Ubuntu 8.04) - music, videos, games, etc.
3. Mac laptop with Ubuntu 8.04 installed instead (Mac OS scrapped).
4. 'Old' PC (recently upgraded). Not used.
5. Server. Currently unused, but earmarked for web, file and print server.

I'm looking to get rid of my old PC and possibly my server (in favour of an EEE box). Have no need for test machines or dual booting as my main PC has 4Gb memory, so runs virtual machines with ease.

UPDATE

Just installed II on my Frankenstein 1 Desktop. Tried 8.04 (thinking its more stable) but i couldnt get my grfx gard working (nvidia 6800), so i decided to upgrade to 8.10.

Flawless!

Everything "just works" right out the box. I only had to select the 177 driver for my card and restart. Leagues better and quicker than previous windows installs on this same machine. Extremely Happy!

A round of Ubuntu for everyone!

My primary computer is an old Dell Dimension 4550 desktop. I've been running Ubuntu on it since 7.10 was released.

My notebook has Windows XP SP3 on it, mainly because my wife threw a fit when I loaded Ubuntu on it while she was on vacation (it needed a reinstall anyway :) ).

My Eee PC has Windows XP SP3 on the primary hard drive and Ubuntu Eee on a 1GB SD card. I boot into Windows with it at work (work network doesn't play nice with Linux) and I boot into Ubuntu Eee everywhere else.

I've got... I think, 4 or 5, or 6.... Wait... Let me count... 8!
1)
MacBook White 2,4Ghz, Running OS X + Ubuntu 8.10 RC (soon to be 8.10) (as a virtual machine) (My everyday machine)
2)
Mac Mini 1,83Ghz, Running OS X (actually Apple TV OS + OS X) 10.4.8 + ubuntu 8.04 Server as a virtual machine
(My Server (ubuntu server 8.04) AND my media center (apple TV os))
3)
Old PC 2,6Ghz Celeron, Running Ubuntu 8.10 RC + Windows XP (Dual-Boot) (My testing machine)
4)
Eee PC 701 Surf 4G, Running XP (since Ubuntu didn't work well on it and the OS that came with it didn't work for me) (My machine, that i've loaned for my mother to use, because it was so bad)
5)
Old laptop (under the bed, haven't used since I got a macbook), running ubuntu 8.04 Server.
(My dust-collecting machine)
6) Old PC (v2.0)
1.4Ghz Celeron, Running XP + Ubuntu... 7.04? (as Dual-Boot) (haven't used since... last year)
(My dust-collecting machine v2.0)
7)
Really, really OLD PC, Running Windows 98 (could not get any form of linux to run on it : |)
(My really really bad machine that I haven't really used for... five years, or more, even)
8 )
My STB (Set-Top-Box), Running Linux, some weird custom one, never seen before. (My television machine... Not really a computer, though)

These are my machines. I only constantly use the first two, others I touch only if the first two have problems / testing new stuff / other stuff...

Parents' Lappy: 1 GB RAM Turion64 1.6 or 1.8 Ghz (don't remember), Arch64+KDEmod

Brothers' Good PC: 1.5 GB RAM, P4 2.6 Ghz, Arch32+KDEmod and Win XP

Brothers' Piece of crap, not only is it slow but every OS boots unusually slow and has other random problems, it's dying: 256 MB RAM, Celeron 1.3 Ghz, Win XP, I've tried various distros but they have even morew computer-specific problems than XP does.

My Craptop (busted CD drive makes it hard to try different distros nowadays lol): 192 MB RAM, AMD K6 400 Mhz, 4.5 GIg HD...yeah...almost full, Debian Lenny with Openbox and Win98 :O Need a smaller distro it has like a 2.5 GB partition :P

6. My college has another 500 desktops, 40 laptops

When I get things smoothed out and all said-and-done I'll have about 4 computers

My laptop running Ubuntu 8.10 (or basically kept more up-to-date, when I can download Ibex)
Family desktop running Ubuntu 8.10 (again, kept up-to-date(~ish))
Server running Ubuntu Server edition 8.04 LTS (file server for now, eventually a web server as well, probably leave with LTS until next LTS version comes out)
CPU running IPCop for routing and content filtering (so the kids can't just use a LiveCD and bypass the parental controls on the system ;) )

2 desktops Ubuntu on one, Dual boot XP/Ubuntu on the other
1 server Ubuntu
6 Laptops Mint, Ubuntu, XP, and 1 that dual boots Ubuntu and XP

The one XP laptop is a cloudbook, because of the via based hardware its useless for anything else, so it has become a skype and ventrillo station.
The dual boot machines have only recently had XP added to them in order to play video games, a compromise I finally decided was acceptable. With exception of connecting to the game servers the XP partitions are never allowed out on the interwebs, they are just to fragile and have really poor immune systems.
Work, Education, Web Surfing, Email, and day to day things that make life go are all handled exclusively on the Ubuntu Partitions.
When the MMORPG's I enjoy become widely availabe for the console platform like my PS3 which also runs Ubuntu, I will just switch my gaming habits over to that.

Have fun out there.

Things have changed here (again):

My box: Arch64 and Vista Ultimate x64

My parents's lappy: Vista Home Premium 32 bit (when it needs reinstallation it's getting Ultimate x64, or Linux if I can reconvince my parents)

My brothers's decent box: Vista Ultimate 32 bit (as soon as I get my new HD, probably tommorow, I'm giving them my old one and putting Arch32 or Kubuntu back on it)

My brothers's crap box: XP Pro, nothing runs well on it, XP runs best (suprisingly)

My craptop: Debian Lenny and 98SE, no CD drive otherwise I'd install a distro that uses less HD. Would be Arch if Arch worked on i586.

Debian/amd64 central station.

Semi-diskless Debian/amd64 backup and recording server.

Diskless 8-core K8, usually running FreeBSD-current/amd64.

Diskless random K8 dual-core, currently running NetBSD/amd64.

Random diskless Conroe, currently running Debian/amd64 (runs certification to be central station when mwave finally gets my new disks here).

Some unused Celeron 440 system for overclocking sports, not up.

Two FreeBSD-6.4-stable notebooks (synced, same data).

One Ubuntu/i386 notebook.

One Redhat-7.3 notebook. It's a Sony, so who knows whether it turns on.

One CABNE Opteron socket 939 thing with multiboot Win2k/Fedora/FreeBSD-current that was my gaming machine, but I don't think I turned it on this year.

%%

On top of that I have a pile of VMware installations. The trick is that I can boot the same diskless install I use on physical machines in VMware. Shut down one, edit dhcpd.conf, fire up VMware. Saves power and machine is reachable. Go back to physical machine to rebuild the world or something.

Argh! Darn Linux ADHD!!
While I am currently running

Ubuntu 8.04 on laptop
Edubuntu 7.10 on desktop
Ubuntu Server 8.04 on server

I am getting that good 'ol itch and it's leaning me towards setting up the server as an LTSP server running 8.04 LTS, having the desktop and laptop be clients and then have the hard drive in the laptop for when disconnected.

For the laptop's hard drive I'm thinking of running Kubuntu with a KDE-centric installation. If there is a KDE or Qt based application use that instead of the non- versions, example
KOffice instead of OpenOffice
Krita instead of Gimp
Karbon14 instead of Inkscape
etc.

Darn itches!! :lolflag: Gets me in trouble more times than I'd care to admit!

I currently have 4 computers, possibly 5 or 6 in the foreseeable future. Here's a breakdown of what they're all for and what I have installed on them:

Laptop: Ubuntu desktop edition, 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. This is obviously my main workstation for doing a lot of my work and social stuff.

Desktop: Fedora 9. I use this one for most of my gaming, like Second Life and such.

Old laptop: Ubuntu desktop edition, 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. I still use my old laptop almost exclusively as a BOINC computer.

Server: Ubuntu server edition, 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. This is where I host my website and other internet features. :D

Desktop: Ubuntu 8.10 (default); WinXP (not booted in months)
Server: (headless): Ubuntu 8.10 Server. This computer was originally built by Linux guy Trevor in Campbellford, Ontario in early 2004 - or was it 2003 or 2002...? - in response to my request to "Build me a linux only computer that all I have to do is turn on and start learning linux. The original OS was current at the time Mandrake. I did not get far. When the Ubuntu distro before Dapper came out, Trevor handed me a Live CD one day and I have never looked back. Not many of my computers escape having Windows removed or, at a minimum, ending up somewhere near the bottom of the boot menu.
Toshiba A200: boots Ubuntu 8.10 from USB HD; pre-installed WinVISTA is a wreck, which is irrelevant because I find VISTA nauseating
IBM Thinkpad: Ubuntu 8.04 (I think), monitor or graphics card toast - used as a thin client; Windows 2000
4 Panasonic Toughbook CF-71;

First - original Win98
Second - original Win98
Third - Xubuntu 8.10
Fourth - Damn Small Linux; Win2000; Win98

I was reading a thread here earlier asking, "If you have XP installed, why use Linux?". I did not comment because I don't think I understood the question

My Tuxbox: I've got WinXP, Ubuntu 8.04, and just installed Fedora 10 last night. Even though I'm no "hardy" expert, I'd thought I'd try another distro. Ubuntu is my main OS.

Mom's Laptop PC: Vista Home Premium

1 Desktop (wife's) - WinXP Pro, soon to be dual boot w/ Ubuntu

Then my dedicated BOINC basket crunchers (headless, see 'Crunchers' pic link in sig):

C20 - Xubuntu v8.04LTS 64b, + SAMBA file server, + apt-cacher server

I have:

a homebuilt computer, with an Asus P5K motherboard, a Q6600 processor running on 3GHz instead of the normal 2.4GHz, 4GB ram memory, a nVidia 8500GT graphics card and 2 500GB disks. On one disk is Windows XP 64-bit Professional and on the other is Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.0.4.2, also in 64 bit version.

a Compaq Armada E500 laptop, back from the old ages, with a Pentium 3 600MHz processor, onboard graphics of some kind, I extended the memory to 256MB and I put in a 80GB harddisk. This also has a dual boot between Windows XP-32 and Hardy Heron 8.0.4.1 in 32 bit version.

a homebuilt computer with an Asrock K8-Upgrade-1689 motherboard, an AMD 3400+ processor running on 2400MHz, 2 GB ram memory, an nVidia 6200 graphics card and at the moment an old 120GB hard disk. The two 250GB SATA drives are out and waiting for something else. It's running on Windows XP since that is the only OS I can install at the moment. All other OS's crash at install. There is some kind of hardware error which I can not find yet. XP does not seem to use whatever is wrong with the machine.

My wife has a DELL computer with a Q6600 processor, 3GB ram, Windows Vista-32 and an at the moment unknown size hard disk. I may not touch it anyway so I know little about it. :p

I have to revise my last post, picked up a few more.

Laptop - Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - Just used to remote connect into my Ubuntu desktop or for doing quick photo editing for web design in Photoshop. I just use this when I want to get things done quickly and don't have time for the learning curve of GIMP or Quanta. Or if I'm feeling lazy and want to lie on my bed.

Laptop - Ubuntu 8.1 32 - I put together a Dell D600 from various broken ones I got from other people for free and set it up on Ubuntu as a birthday gift for my brother.....also to try and convince him to use Linux, the LiveD didn't have the effect I had anticipated. I dropped it in the mail to him last week, his birthday is next week.

Desktop - Ubuntu 8.1 64 - This is my main machine for media, web browsing and general computer goofing off. It's hooked up to my projector so anytime I want to watch a movie or feel like laying back on the couch with the wireless keyboard/mouse and messing around, I use this. It's also my main music source hooked to my home theatre which I have playing pretty much all day.

Server - Ubuntu 8.1 32 - An old Pentium 3 machine that I use as a simple web server and it sits right next to my main desktop, plugged into the same router. Whenever I want to do web development on my server, I just SSH into it and away I go.

Carputer - Windows XP Service Pack 1 - This is a Mini-ITX VIA Epia M10000 setup on a M1-ATX DC-DC power supply that I use in my car for mobile computer and it's hooked to to 7 inch Xenarc 700TSV touchscreen in the dash. It runs Raodrunner with all commands mapped on the back end to Winamp and Windows Media Player for music, videos, weather, internet, engine management, GPS and everything else. It never gets updated since I don't have the internet active (can't afford mobile internet yet) so therefore I don't ever have to worry about it crashing or getting viruses. I installed XP on it a few years ago and haven't updated it since. I also have a webcam on the back of my rearview mirror recording everything out my windshield and saving it to 30 minute files on my hard drive via a program called Capture.

So those are my 5 machines! I'm still looking to get another one to run Zoneminder if I can figure that out.

I have a Dell E6400 that i use my self, mostly for education... It runs ubuntu 8.10 32 bit at the moment, and I'm considering switching to 9.04 64 bit when its released.

Intel Centrino 2 2.27 Ghz
4 GB of DDRII Ram
160 GB HD
Intel GMA 4500 MHD graphics (dedicated, use up to 1300 mb of ram i think)

I also have a Fujitsu siemens: scaleo P (i think it is)

Specs:
AMD sempron 3200+
1536 Mb of ram
Nvidia geforce (something) 256 mb
250 GB HD

It's Used by my youngest little brother at this time for gaming, which means it dual boots Ubuntu 8.10.... he mainly uses XP though....

(he's pocessed with gaming)

My parents have allowed me to install Ubuntu on their computer before the 27 of this month because their firewall license expires. and if they're satisfied with it they'll never go back to windows... (which i think they wont ;) )

Stable Core of Home Computing System:
Laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
Desktop running Edubuntu 7.10
Server running Ubuntu Server Edition 8.04 LTS
Firewall/Router/Content filter server running IPCop

Then there are the less-stable ones
2nd Hard drive for Laptop running Fedora 10 (for use with DACS Linux SIG)
Desktop running openSUSE 11.1 (for experimenting with KDE 4.2)

Although when I'm done playing with the openSUSE desktop I may turn around and install VMWare EXSi and combine the F/R/CF as one image, and one or more servers running Ubuntu Server and/or CentOS (RHEL).

I gotta start dating these "updates"...

My desktop doesn't get used much, mainly for storing media and syncing my PDA and phone data. My laptop is what I use most of the time. I bought a secondhand iBook so I could have a play around with OSX. The old laptop is actually a new purchase for me. At the moment I'm considering partitioning the hard drive into 4-6 sections and using it as a test rig for various distros. The other option is to leave it as XP and dump the XP partition on my desktop.

Working? 4.

I have Crunchbang Linux on two, Puppy on one, and XP on the last.

XP is only on the last one because the wifi card it has (which is essential in that PC, as it's used to share a WiFi connection) doesn't work under Linux. It's supposed to work in Ndiswrapper, but I haven't heard anyone get it working since Gutsy, and it's all right I guess with XP.

link to my Wiki with details: here (http://wiki.mehall.co.cc/index.php/Computers)

I have another two non-working computers, one of which would work if I had the right type of spare PSU, but it's a worse computer than everything with the same type it needs, so I'll leave it for now.

So I answered 4, since that's how many I personally own and have working.

How many Computers do you have and what OS is on each one ?

I'll answer later

I have three machines: my desktop, my laptop, and then the HTPC. The desktop is my main machine as the laptop is a low-spec unit used pretty much just for class and the HTPC is solely used as a DVR and ATSC/QAM tuner for my old low-def analog TV.

Oh, and I should add that the desktop and HTPC run Debian Lenny and the laptop runs Ubuntu 9.04.

I have... (counting)... 8 if you're a touch lenient on the definition...

Main desktop - dual-boots into Windows XP, but I live in Ubuntu 8.04
Wife's Desktop - Kubuntu 8.10
Wife's laptop - Kubuntu 8.04
"File" server - Ubuntu Server 8.04
"Intranet" server - Ubuntu Server 8.04
"Communications" server - Ubuntu Server 8.04

The iffy ones are these:
PlayStation 3 with PSUbuntu 8.10 installed as the "other OS". I do actually use this on a semi-regular basis.
I also own a Nokia N810 (I call it my PDA, but it acts as a tiny, low-powered computer) with Maemo (Debian-based; installed by default on device) that's always in my pocket.

Not counting, but I wanted to mention:
I also regularly use, but do not own, a laptop from work with Ubuntu 8.04. I chose to put Ubuntu on there with permission. Otherwise I would have been "stuck" with the company's image of Kubuntu 8.04. Not that I mind that any; I just prefer GNOME personally. That image is what's on my desktop at work, though, which I also use regularly.
