Dunno, but could it be that it is more compatible with Vista in the multiplayer sense? That Linux clients can play better with Vista clients?

If I recall correctly, the problem lies in Windows side. Linux servers accept windows players out-of-the-box, while windows servers need a little config to accept linux players.
