"LX-Viewer is a program that will allow you to open, view, print and convert DWG or DXF files, typically used in AutoCAD related technical drafting. "

seems like a pretty handy app for ppl who need to look at drawings from AutoCAD and many other CAD programs. As far as I can tell there's nothing that does the job in the Ubuntu repositories; Qcad is there (which I use) and can open dwg files, but given a .dxf file I needed a way to convert it.

From now on you can just install a linux version:

http://www.opendesign.com/files/guestdownloads/TeighaFileConverter/teighafileconverter_3.5.1_i386.deb

Just tested it and works in Ubuntu 11.10

Start TeighaFileConverter in your terminal.

bwakkie, Thanks but could I be a pain and ask for some step-by-step instructions on how to install. I'm a bit of a noob, only having seen the light 6 months ago, and I'm not getting a good result. I've trawled the net on how to use terminal properly but to no avail.

I opened terminal and wrote "sudo apt-get install TeighaFileConverter" but got "E: Could not find package TeighaFileConverter" as reply.

I searched through and found the package that was downloaded when I clicked on the link you provided but I don't understand how to use archive manager to extract it or where to extract it to or even if I'm extracting the right thing to extract!! Like I said.....NOOB!

I'd be grateful for any help

Regards Brad

I found a program called DraftSight which can read, write and convert between .dxf and .dwg files. It's a pretty good 2D CAD program to use aswell. As of April 7 2012, it wasn't listed in Software Centre. I had to download it from the website.

To install, I found this thread exceedingly useful.

I hope this helps someone
