Just curious... since i am getting into program i am thinking of just downloading the 64 bit distro when the next release comes out.

I'm not an expert, but:
The software can be built "to run on x64" and "to run on x64 taking best advantage of the x64 architecture", thus it also depends much on the skills of the developer(s) who created the software for x64, and since it's a relatively new 'technology' there aren't many masterpieces for x64 yet.

64 bit isn't necessarily faster, it can address more memory. The max RAM for a 32 bit processor is 4 gigs, unless you have that much with your 32 bits.

The most significant speed increase on short term actually comes from the doubled register count.
.. this, however, is not so significant.
