hello.

i have an hp compaq 6710b with the messed-up video card (intel 965gm if i'm not mistaken), which is probably the reason why compiz fusion won't work.

anyway... i'm using beryl and emerald at the moment, both work perfectly, but the only thing that i miss from compiz is the shadow under/above the panel. (you know, in compiz the panel casts a 3-4 px wide shadow on the desktop which looks kinda cool).

is there any way i could add this shadow to the panel while using beryl?

(above: compiz, below: beryl)

as you can see, without the shadow thingy, the panel looks transparent, although it's not. the background picture is the same as the wallpaper but in bigger resolution...

(this is the wallpaper - http://antonotron.deviantart.com/art/Evil-Monkey-Desktop-21028078)

i thought about simply drawing the shadow on the panel's background image but it would look weird because of the icons, maximized windows, etc...

thanks for any ideas...

AFAIK, the shadow depends on the theme you've chosen. Choose a different theme if you want a shadow.

no, it's not.

as you could've seen in the image i've uploaded, it's compiz-dependant.

Yeah you're right it's compiz-dependant. In CompizConfig Settings Manager, go to the decoration plugin, make sure it's enabled and then mess around with the shadow settings there.

just a sec, i don't get it... i should go to compiz manager? but why, if i'm using beryl? compiz is not enabled in any way afaik... my decorator is emerald and the manager is beryl...

Oh whoops. Sorry, my bad. You should use Beryl Settings Manager, and do exactly the same thing.

i didn't find any shadow settings. only shade settings, but that's a completely different thing... :(

Are you sure? It should be in the settings under the "window decorations" plugin. In fact, that's where I first saw it. I don't have Beryl installed on my computer anymore so I can't check though ><
