I don't use photoshop anymore but I've never had trouble with it.
Perhaps look around here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1336
And see if anyone has similar issues.
You may also want to check the output of the program when run from a terminal to see if there are any obvious errors being reported that you may have missed.

Crossover runs Photoshop 7 quite well, I have always had problems running it with wine.

Have you tried simply hitting ENTER (perhaps a couple of times)? I have to do that when running Photoshop CS (aka 8 ) because there actually is a (invisible) dialog box behind the startup splash screen.

Wow, it was that simple.
Awesome, thanks! :)

I use Photoshop 6.5 in Vmware server and runs pretty good....especially if the photo size is not too large.
I only have 512 megs of memory allocated to Vmware.
Since I am trying to migrate away from Windows permanently I dont plan on upgrading any further with Photoshop.

if you want, I can link you a moded version of CS2 + the how-to on installing it, It works better than PS7.
