is there a opensource program like dreamweaver for ubuntu??? a kind of program which features both design, code and split. i kinda like working in that kinda API. what do you use? or what would you suggest? :)
edit: i know you can get dreamweaver through wine, but this defeats the point. i want something opensource :P

There's Nvu (http://www.nvu.com/), which probably doesn't have everything that Dreamwaver has, but it's still something :)
Just sudo apt-get install nvu

do you know what those SOME programs are? How can I find the list of programs that "your vodka" supports?

Quanta Plus (http://quanta.kdewebdev.org/index.php) allows you to view it split-screen (code and tagged (almost wysiwyg) )

I recommend Aptana. aptana.com
You can get it either as a plugin for Eclipse (available in the repos) or as a standalone.

+1 for Aptana. Very slick how it works in tandem with Eclipse. If you do any programming or web app development, it's a perfect mesh.

Kompozer is pretty good for web development from what I've seen

I use nvu to get things started, and then usually clean everything up using bluefish.

I'll put in a third vote for Aptana, but you need to know your HTML/CSS fairly well to use it. But other than it being JVM based it's great.

I still know nothing about programming AJAX at this point (ASP and ASP.NET with a smidge of PHP at this point.)

hi,
Why do not try to use Microsoft Visual Web Developer for web designing. This software is depend on the ASP.NET Technology.
Uh, isn't it pretty obvious?

nvu (kompozer is a newer unofficial release) is great but unfortunately no longer being developed so my be behind on newer features (course newer isnt always better on the web). amaya is an option with split screen but i found it a bit buggy on my system. aptana or screem are great but more for programing than basic design. if you just want basic design id stick with nvu/kompozer until you grow out of it then considering aptana or screem.

My absolute favorite!
you can set a very fast Preview so that code modifications are visible almost instantly:
Setttings>Configure Quanta>VPL View>Refress the VPL view every(ie 20ms)
so nice.... ;D
