They are pretty slick, especially consolas which I'm using on my terminals.
Look at them here:

Download them (if the link still works):

I found an archive containing the fonts here. (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&u=http://www.crsky.com/soft/5946.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3DAeroConcept%2Bpack%26hl%3Den%26hs%3Dd ul%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox%26rls%3 Dorg.mozilla:en-US:unofficial) It's a RAR archive, so you'll have to have rar and unrar installed; so follow the Ubuntu Guide's instructions for installing rar and unrar.

I had read this article in the past but I was surprised to find them here available to download. I didn't know that they were already implemented or even used in some program.
So guys how did you find them? Am I right if I assume that they are being used in Windows Vista (aka Longhorn) and someone ripped the off from there?
Are they going to be free, when officially available, as the other free Microsoft truetype fonts (like Comic Sans etc. etc.)?

theyve been leaked for a long time now, although they are included in vista.
AFAIK, they are not free though.

The only font I really seem to care for is Consolas for my terminal and XpertMud client. Cool fonts, though. I like the irony of having them on my Linux box before most Windows users have them.

Not a stupid question. Unpack them to "~/.fonts" directory.

Yeah, Consolas is sweet. I've been loving Corbel, too, though. I find it hilarious that these fonts look a lot better on Linux than they do on Windows 2000.

I don't think so, now that I think of it. And I make do with a cheap CRT at work, while I've got an uber Samsung LCD at home.
Here is a screenshot of my desktop using Corbel for my Openbox and GTK themes and Consolas in GVIM. (http://ubuntuforums.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=707&c=4)

There is no font installer in Gnome, is there? I log in to KDE and use the font installer there to save me from the terminal (and possible errors).
I hope that a font installer/uninstaller is a part of Breezy.

Did you look at the "Go to Fonts Folder" button in the GNOME font dialog?

There is but is isn't evident. You can find the access in the advanced options section of the Font control panel. Or type "fonts:///" in the address bar of a Nautilus browser...

I had these fonts and they looked quite nice. The problem is that I had to do a fresh install. So I decided to chech the forums again so I could ge them. Voila! All the links do not work........ One site said that it took them off at the request of M$. I did a search of the net and could not find them. Could any of you guys be so kind as to post a link. I'd really appreciate. Thanx in advance.

Thank everybody!
Linux get new windows features faster than windows :lol:

I used these fonts for sometime and think that all fonts are little ugly, monospace is much better than consolas and verdana is better than all others.

Does this have something to do with M$? If so then WHY ARE YOU USING MICROSOFTS STUFF??? Linux shouldn't copy Microsoft. Linux is allready better and it should develop it's own stuff. Microsoft doesn't copy Linux (I think).

I really don't think so.
FreeSans is the best font I've ever used (both windows and linux ... I haven't been using windows a couple of years, but nothing is changed there :) )

This isn't copying Microsoft, this is using Microsoft fonts. But to address your point, Microsoft does copy a lot from free software ("Linux"), Apple and others, as everyone else.

I now use Candara almost everywhere in Breezy. Only problem is that Candara Bold is not really rendered correctly; it looks coool in Windows XP, but on Breezy it doesnt look bold at all in sizes below 12 points. Whats is wrong?
I did fiddle with all the available settings from Gnomes Font Preferences.
And... Candara (in fact any font) is rendered quite a bit more professionally in XP than on Hoary and Breezy. :(

I found that switching the antialiasing setting to "Subpixel hinting (LCD)" produces much clearer fonts, maybe you should try that too.

try adding this section to your ~/fonts.conf to fix the bold issue:
<match target="font" >
<test name="family" qual="any" compare="eq">
<string>Candara</string>
<string>Corbel</string>
</test>
<test name="weight" compare="more_eq"><int>200</int></test>
<test name="pixelsize" compare="less_eq"><double>14</double></test>
<edit name="autohint" mode="assign"><bool>true</bool></edit>
</match>
hope it helps

The essense here is to make the default Ubuntu fonts work as best as possible.
Ubuntu Dapper comes with Bitstream Vera and DejaVu (the two highest priority fonts in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf). Is there a way to configure fonts.conf to get the best results out of this?

How are you all installing these? gnome does not sem to have a way to install these. maybe someone could make a .deb of these files, and a howto on installing them.

It's this easy:
Create a .fonts folder in your home directory then copy the fonts to said folder... Run fc-cache in a terminal... restart X.. then select the fonts as you normally would ;)

Nice fonts but my consolas is not displaying correctly. Certain letters are too wide and overlap with the next letters. Main culprits seem to be m and @. Any idea how I can solve this?
Just to add to the plethora of links heres mine:

Thats all the .ttf files in one archive. Extract into your ~/.fonts dir and away you go..

Yes, there are nice. But Microsoft again managed to ship a font with an incorrectly inverted doubleleftquote.
Look at how “Corbel” renders the quotes. The left one should roughly resemble a 66, which would be compatible with many european languages where doubleleftquote is the high right quote.
