USB Ports on my usb keyboard

I have 2 usb ports on my usb keyboard to the left and right of the esc key and the cd eject key. When i plug in my generic mp3 player it doesn't come up on the desktop like it does when you plug it in the side. Problem is there are only 2 on the side and I have a usb mouse AND keyboard, so I need these to work. It's a blue and white 400mgz imac.

try to plug your mouse in the port on your keyboard and the mp3-player in the port of the machine.

may be, it isn't working, because you have only usb1.1
