It will work fine.
I have a 8800 GTS that's running perfectly with the normal nVidia drivers.

There is nothing in Ubuntu, emulated or otherwise, that will utilize DX10.
If you are asking if that will cause problems, no, it will not.

Same here, but be warned I had to use Envy to get the drivers installed. For some reason the "restricted driver manager" didn't install the right drivers for my 8800 GTS.
You can get Envy from here:

It's very easy to use and worked flawlessly for me!

Agree 100000%.
Envy is awesome, and the restricted driver manager is sadly lacking. I hope they change it in Gusty and model it after Envy. :D

nothing wrong with the chipset but i'd be leary if that manufacturer. i stay away from msi parts in the systems i build i tend have high failure rate with thier graphics cards. unless i remove thier stock heatsinks and fan and replace them with better ones. and i don't overclock and had mainly issues with fans going dead within 3-6 months and at stock speeds msi cards tend to run hot. also have issues with thier motherboards mainly they are very picky about the ram you use for dual channel and most keep it at single channel due to no matter what chips you use they tend to reboot randomly after a few hours use

I've heard good things from XFX. Also, I'd consider Asus a good brand. By the way, best of lucks with the card!

Just the installed the gutsy gibbon 7.10 release with no problems, and figured with all my years of using windows I would check for any driver problems after the install finished. I did notice that the video driver was not correct so I when and googled for a update and found the driver I needed to install my Nvidia GT-8500 once install and a reboot it worked fine.
I had no real problems after that but one little thing that bugs me is that I noticed that my sound card an onboard realtek chip was working, in 2 channel stereo and not 5.1 which is what I have setup also the volume control in xmms and other apps did not seem to work, but the main gnome volume does hmm..
Installed a new driver for the sound with no change. can anyone help with this matter?.
The onboard sound chip is a High Definition Audio/AC'97 7.1 channel. seems only the front channels are working I did set the systems sound config to auto detect and changed the default mixer to the newer driver. still no luck.

for those having problems with the driver. you may have to disable a tv turner card if you have one. check this:
