Not the player-the IDE that allows you to construct videos for the flash player using action script? Or if not, is anyone trying to develop it or something similar?

There is, also, an open source project called GNASH. It currently only works with Flash 7, with limited support for flash 9 including working about 80% with YouTube. The project site is here (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/). It is in the repositories and works with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu. It also works with many browser with the plugin for Firefox also in the repositories. Good luck!

Just installed it, konqueror shows just a black screen and on firefox is all scrambled....do I need to check for regular flash and remove it? Or is something else?

Gnash is only movie player. If I understand you well, you're looking for application for creating flash movies.

hey i know it's not really an open source alternative, but just to let you know...
macomedia flash 8 works like a charm installed via wine ;D
