i started using ubuntu about 5 months ago and at first i didnt care for it sice it is totally different that xp and is a struggle to do almost any thing but i stuck with it since i didn't want to go back to xp or downgrade to vista.
now i can do anything i could do in xp in ubuntu it just requires you to learn a bit about how things work and how to do things. i also like the community support because it provides in most cases better support since the people are glad to help and in most cases have gone through the same problem you have, and in most cases i would rather have a community support like this than talk to some one over the phone who doesn't know any thing more than you do. Although linux and ubuntu have a steep learning curve if you like technical stuff it is easy and is worth learning about.
if you are thinking of going back to windows keep trying and don't give up on ubuntu
it is amazing how there is such a great product that is free

Very true. One thing I always tell people to keep in mind is that they have been using a Windows system for 10 years or so - Linux is different. Don't expect to be as fluent in it overnight as you are in Windows.
I started running Linux servers a few years ago, and just last year finally made Ubuntu in particular my OS on my laptop. I felt comfortable running it for servers (file, DNS, email, etc.) but was not comfortable enough to go 100% Linux. I dual booted for a couple months, but decided this was more headache than just taking the plunge. Sploosh! Here I am!
Glad to hear you're happy!

I have been going back and forth between XP and Ubuntu since Hoary and back Then ( ;-) ) we did not have things like VmServer and such so dual booting was the order of the day.
I can still remember when you needed to do a lot of editing before you got wireless working at all, we havent heard of a such a luxury as " Network Manager " .
And today with Vista Proving to be the worst windows release EVER and XP's end of support cycle announced i'm really happy i'v stuck with Ubuntu.
Just hoping MS will stay clear of Linux.

the bigest enemy of the open source community is Microsoft because ms can use things developed by the community but then if ms even has the slightest thought the open source community used something from them that they could have took from the community they have a fit and star sewing people
what i did was get a computer from dell preloaded instead of diving straight into it and have to configure every thing so at leas i could learn the basics before having to do any thing complicated

i kinda dislike windows and really hate vista all microsoft is doing is screwing people over and getting away with it while making billions because people dont know any differant and what microsoft is doing is selling a product that is half the quality of ubuntu

Gee pal, it seems we are in the same boat. Just keep sticking with it. Ubuntu is my distro of choice after trying countless ones. From suse, redhat to other distros i've never even heard of. I don't miss XP one little bit and anyone that has to to back.......I'm truly sorry.

It doesn't matter what distro you use as long you will stick with Linux , consequently if more people use any type of Linux it will put pressure on software and hardware manufacturers to take Linux seriously under consideration when in future development.
Plus it is in the family , we help suse guys and gentoo users hep us this is how all of the tech world should be coexisting .

I chose Ubuntu because of the superb quality of apt-get, and I didn't like the crazy release schedule Debian offers - Ubuntu gives me everything I want.
