So, the Beryl project has been discontinued. I see no reason to install it should I make the move to Ubuntu once again....
So, for making a very pretty desktop can I use this combo?
Emerald themes+ Compiz fusion+ Kiba dock....? Or are there any issues that I should be aware of?
Because I've been spoiled by VISTA you see....I want the desktop not to look just visually appealing but to have lots of animations, some of which are useful.

To get your share of visual effects, I would recomend enableing desktop effects and installing gnome-compiz-manager.

That's pre-installed with Ubuntu 7.04, right?
So I should wait till 7.10 comes out with the official Compiz Fusion?

I am using Compiz-Fusion from Trevinio's repos and it works and looks beautiful. I have no problems with CF and don't expect any with Trevinio.

You might want avant-window-navigator instead. Looks much better than kiba in my opinion. takes much less CPU power too.

Thanks for that piece of advice, a quick question though.
Since Ubuntu Feisty Fawn comes with Compiz (basic functions though) can I use Emerald and AWN without installing the Compiz fusion plugins?

I use both kiba and awn, kiba is a launcher and awn as a window switcher.
I'll post a screenie tonight..

FF comes with Compiz by default? Wheee... didnt know that! So one can go about installing all the themes and all? I installed AWN and I get that dirty black shadow, which I read is due to lack of Compiz/Beryl.

I think you have to enable it using the "enable desktop effects" option. I think this switches from Metacity to compiz.
