Recently i had my x86_64 fixed up tip-top shape.... now a little problem is irritating me, quite alot.

It all started with me wanting Gdesklets to work (my brother has normal 32 and it looks good) so

i said , hey i'll give it a go. Unfortunately they didn't work so after some extensive research and

fidling i came across a .deb file compiled by a user.

I decided to give it a go, and it installed perfectly, although to my demise i noticed that while

Gdesklets finally worked...they system stopped recognizing all my files....jpegs....avi's....

even my shortcuts on desktop became senseless files with a .destkop extension attached to

the file name. I purged the install but i cant figure out how to get things back to how they

originally were....

It only became a problem when I wanted to change my Desktop background from a KTM

Superduke 990 photo to a KTM prototype photo :PP

Anyway if you read this all the way, good job ! It's such a boring problem and im out of

ideas.

P.S. - What i meant to tell you is that now i have to manually open each file with the **desired** app. that is capable of opening the file (i.e. an .avi file with VLC)

Thank You !!!

Id love to help, but Im not sure what you did or how to fix it. Are you the only user with the problem? Can you make another user if there are no others and see if the problem remains?

I tried that, and the problem persists..... the .deb file that i installed (Gdesklets compiled by a

user for x64) changed something so that now i don't see shortcuts as they are supposed to be

...i.e. instead of seeing Firefox shortcut i see a file named Firefox.desktop ...and when i try to

open it i see the command line for it ... ..for example this VentriloMIX shortcut ----->

---->>> [Desktop Entry]
Name=VentriloMIX
Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/home/myName/.wine" wine "C:\\Program Files\\VentriloMIX\\VentriloMIX.exe"
Type=Application
StartupWMClass=Wine
Path=/home/myName/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/VentriloMIX
Icon=afbc_ventrilomix.0

Hope that made my problem abit clearer
