I recently switched to Sylpheed-Claws-Gtk2, because Thunderbird is kind of too slow in my opinion. And so far I am more than satisfied with it. :)
What bothered me though were the old fashioned icons, but I found two nice Tango themes on the Sylpheed-Claws homepage. However, they don't provide Tango icons for all icons of Sylpheed-Claws. Therefore, I combined the two of them, added a couple of other icons that weren't included in any of them and the result is in the attachment. I know there are still some icons missing and the Tango icons I used are designated for Xubuntu (i.e., no orange touch as known from Ubuntu). But I couldn't figure out the proper file names of some icons and currently don't have the time to start intensive research.
I thought, maybe some people would like it. I would be very pleased to see somebody else complete the set. Perhaps I will improve it in the next time, but I can't promise.

P.S. If you want to install the theme, just download and unzip the package and go to Configuration -> Preferences -> Themes in Sylpheed-Claws. Also, you will have to increase the font size of the folder view a bit to make the icons fit into the rows.
