View Full Version : SWF production in Ubuntu?

I own a graphic design firm, and a huge amount of our output is in SWF format. Other than forcing Illustrator, Freehand and Flash to play nicely with wine, are there any other linux-specific apps capable of producing SWF movies?
Just saving vector images to SWF format is not enough; I need to be able to code flashscripts also..
If anyone can find me a viable alternative to the above apps, I can get rid of lose-dows completely..

Doing a quick google search found F4L (Flash for Linux), which is a SWF writer. I have never used it myself, but it looks like it could get the job done. I would not know otherwise.

I'm interested in hearing if it fits your needs and your thoughts on it switchcode. I have a friend who is heavily into Flash and uses Windows. I would like to be able to, when he undoubtedly ask, reply when he asks what's available on the Linux platform with something better than "I'm sure there is something ... ".

F4L is... Well it works at least =/
Its not like im an obsessive perfectionist; but neither me nor the other designer could produce anything on F4L. It is more of a novelty than a professional solution. Same with Qflash.
If you are looking to play around with flash movies and actionscript on linux, then they are ideal; But professional design solutions they aint.
I think Im just gonna have to take the Wine option..
Thanks for the suggestions and responses doods =)

.swf is property of Adobe.
You can animate .svg with synfig. No actionscript, though.
f4l, i don't know. never tried it. I doubt it can export .swf for above reason.
flash is not a w3c standard.

Not to start a debate or anything, but Adobe allows third-party programs to export to swf format (see here for details (http://www.adobe.com/licensing/developer/)).
As for F4L, I haven't tried it, but I'm going to download it this evening and give it a go... :D

F4L doesn't have an ubuntu package does it? I installed the .deb (I can't remember if I downloaded the package written for debian or if I alien'ed an .rpm) and none of the menu items do anything when I click them, etc.
