Hello to all, what is the best thumbnail / picture viewer for linux? I need one that is reliable and CLEAN. Doesn't crash. Reason why is when i have my samba mounts, if an application hangs when its being viewed over the network it causes my smbmounts to become corrupted and I have to remount them. gThumb is nice but crashes, nautilus (yeah right). Any other ideas?

You might try gqview.

You are welcome. It is my preferred image viewer. One of the nice things that it can do, is to search a directory tree for duplicate/similar images based on various criteria. Comes in handy on occasion.

One of the ones that I tried and was happy with when I used it was Mirage.

It was small simple and fast.

I just discovered Gimv (like Gimp, but just viewer). It is much faster than any other to display a 9921x14031 8MB picture on my 2GHz P4 Intel 384MB RAM box. It is maybe also because it uses only 18MB of memory (no swapping), compared to others that reach 200 MB and several minutes to load one single picture.

I've tried some thumbnail viewers but none of them seem to offer a decent sized thumbnail! Nor do they offer the option to easily change the thumbnail size. Does anyone know of such a thumbnail viewer for Linux?

I absolutely loathed Picasa - I really hate software that starts doing things on my computer without even asking me! - and when I saw it just start to trawl through my hard drive, I exited it and uninstalled it immediately. (Also, it seems really odd and unpleasant having to click a Microsoft style agreement before installing software on Ubuntu...)

use a thumbnailer built into your file manager. Thunar has one, and if you don't know what its package is called: thunar-thumbnailers

Thanks Psumi, I installed Thunar, but the thumbnails aren't big enough and I can't see how to change their size. I have seen Adobe Bridge and one of the nice things about that is that you can simply drag a slider to change the thumbnail size in real time - very handy when trying to evaluate lots of images quickly. Small thumbnails are just no good - there's not enough detail to judge.

Change your resolution smaller?

Thanks again Psumi, but if you mean change my desktop resolution to a smaller size then that's simply not a practical option.

Too bad.
