Has anyone set up Linux MCE? I was just wondering what kind of video card works best? I know, simple and silly, but no specification seems to existt. I have an ATI card on the PC I was going to use for it and was wondering what would be the best/cheapest solution... I never got the ati (radeon 9250) to work for TV out ever...
It seems strange that the web site mentions nothing about video cards...
I don't want to use it as a central server, just as a standalone media center for my parents living room TV. Any ideas? Or just perhaps other tips...

Judging from their site and my own research, ATI is probably the cheapest route. Only nVidia's newest cards support the alpha-blended GUI (which, unfortunately, they tout as one of LinuxMCE's best features because it works well on television screens), but a decent ATI card should handle UI1 with transparency with ease, which is the next best thing to alpha blending.
Also, far more users have reported success installing LinuxMCE 0704 than 1.0 (87% versus ~20% respectively), so I'd say your card is pretty safe. While I can't say for sure, I would wager that with figures like that anything even relatively new from either ATI or nVidia is probably ok - however, what I haven't been able to find yet is a what works well with tv or not. In the very near future I'll be setting up a LinuxMCE box with an ATI card (most likely an All in Wonder) and I'll report how the install goes on the forums.
Such is the downside of using a relatively new distro. The guys haven't had a chance to get a working list up of working hardware. Since it's built on top of Kubuntu, I'd wager that any hardware supported by Kubuntu would at work, if not have full functionality.

Cool. Thanks for the info, I'm kind of baffled by the documentation because it does seem like there's holes in it but all in all it does seem like a pretty cool project, and my parents have a spare computer that they have hooked up to the tv (albeit running windows 2000) that they use but very rarely. I'm sure if it had a more user friendly interface that was also useful they would be more willing to watch it. I'll give it a shot and report back. Perhaps I'll set it up to dual boot first "in case" it doesn't work at all. Anyway, thanks for the tips.
