Well. After a 5 hour download of 3.4e I was, you could say, fairly keen to give it a good go. And how disappointing it is. The artwork is nice, but... it didn't detect my 1280x800 res (surely not that exotic?); wireless was buggy (3945 anyone?); I hate the screen filled with icons (XP style); the damn things full of FPS games (can we have one for grown-ups please?); and - worst of all - when switching to the gnome desktop, all the icons are massively oversized, and the gnome-menu (attempting to rip of the slab, Mint, or USP thing) is the worst menu design I have ever seen. It shows you about 4 apps - if the one you want isn't on it, clicking 'more apps' opens up the control panel (3-4 sec delay here), which contains a morass of useless crap that you have to wade through to find the app you want.
What a waste of space.
I won't be trying Sabayabadon't again.

Too bad for you. Though I agree about the desktop being flooded with icons, Sabayon detected my res - 1280x800 - and wireless (3945) just fine. And who cares about Gnome ? :D
I wouldn't use Sabayon on a daily basis either but I'll keep it as a nice toy to play with when I'm bored as wel as an easy way to show off Compiz :p

Who cares about gnome???
And why would you show off compiz on Sabayon?

The FPS games are liveCD only, they don't install (at least they never did through 3.3, the last version I used). The distro is KDE centric, what do you really expect from the gnome side? Its there and you can configure it if you want it, but to customize all the DEs they offer would be insane for such a small project. Also, everything else you complained about could be fixed in a matter of minutes.
Then again, you don't seem like you are willing to give it a chance, so I'm not sure why I wasted the ATP moving my fingers to type this.

Because I'm too lazy to install it on my other distros so it's easier to just pop the Sabayon LiveDVD when I want to impress Windows folks with Compiz.

So why bother including gnome on it, and going to all the effort to create a new menu style for it, if you aren't going to put any other effort it? Do you think that, before it was released, the devs looked at Sabayon gnome and thought - that'll do?? What was going through their minds?

Uhm, I dont like all the icons on the screen either but they can be deleted/move with a few clicks.
You had an option during install to leave out the FPS games (and other stuff) so what you bitching about, you choose to install them ?
It's a KDE centric distro so get over Gnome.
Stick to a Gnome centric distro in future and make sure you read the install options.

I think he was talking about the Live environment, not the installed one.

Exactly. Didn't get as far as the installation.
Seem to have touched a nerve though.
Sure it's KDE - so stick to KDE and don't try to do gnome if you're not really interested. Seriously, I wasn't expecting gnome, but what they served up was trash.

well, im sure there are people out there that sabayon or sabayaba ((sorry haha but that was a funny miss spelling)) is suited well for..
and its built for them rather than the people who like ubuntu for specific reasons ;)
although i do agree that its important to pick a distro thats focused on your desktop environment of choice, because the optimization is what makes the difference..
i mean, look what a difference Zenwalk made to XFCE!
((and in my opinion, ubuntu is the best gnome distro out there, but that could just be the fanboy talkin in me haha))

The install of the games is optional, it asks you during the install.
