why cant you delete your own posts? if you can edit them, you should also be able to delete them.

i found this (deleting threads is basically same as deleting posts)
vBulletin is currently limited in that we can't give you access to delete your own threads or rename them without giving you the ability to do this on other users posts also.

Secondly what about in debates in the Cafe etc.? Is it good giving you the ability to delete your thread if you dont' like the outcome?
but it was posted in 2005.

cause that will disrupt conversation, you can just modify it, or leave it blank :)

I know this probably won't help get it changed or anything, but I agree with the OP. The ability to delete your own posts would be helpful, and I don't think it would "disrupt the conversation" any more than the ability to edit posts would. There are a few good reasons to be able to delete posts. For one. it allows people to self-remove their own accidental double-posts (when you hit submit twice by accident). Also, sometimes you post something and realize right after you post that someone has said the same thing (sometimes while you were posting!). Deleting there helps redundancy.

If the main concern is "disrupting conversation", then you could do what other forums do -- allow deleting your own posts only if nobody has posted more after it. There's no way to disrupt the conversation if your post is the last one in the thread! And it neatly solves both of the above scenarios.

Anyway, just my two cents.

Just my take on this, I have not checked carefully.

On some other forum I used to mod, we had also disabled this feature. People would delete their own thread once it was solved... And usually it was with a good intention "oh, I did not want to use bandwidth". The whole point about a technical help forum is that other users can benefit from solved threads.

It also allows to keep track of conversations, and not run into a situation like: "nah, I never wrote that post" ;)

Erm... quoting me there... You have quoted me talking about one thing, and suggested I'm disagreeing with another.

The quote above is about me talking about "threads". Not "posts."

I am unsure if the forums software will let you delete your own posts without having the ability to delete others... but I'm guessing it doesn't. Why don't you just edit your post and leave it blank if its that important?

If you don't want it there, you shouldn't have posted it in the first place, simple as that.

Not sure I'm following here...

But anyway. On second thoughts, to the OP, you can always report your post, and ask for a deletion (mods can do it), with a reason. I've already done this, for double posts, or comments posted on the wrong thread for ex.
