I'm very biased towards knoppix, I love that little distro :P

Honestly though, I'd go for something more stable than ubuntu tends to be, debian or fedora are nice choices, slackware is great if you wanna compile a lot of stuff, and gentoo compiles everything using it's package manager, which kinda gives the bonuses of a good package manager, with better speed/stability/customisability, which is pretty cool if your willing to put up with it's annoying long install procedure(it's really long and demands you babysit it through the entire thing, total pain in the rear, but the result is worth seeing for yourself).

If it's to be a just-in-case installation, you could just put Ubuntu in the third partition and stuff it with the tools you think you might want in "that" case.

That has the advantage that you already know the distribution.

The CafeLinux.org Developers strive to bring to you a beautiful, elegant e17 OS based on a severly stripped down version of Xubuntu. This is a custom e17-from-SVN, lead development is by Rui Pais in Portugal. Tux Aubrey of Australia and RAV TUX of Oregon, are the other two primary developers of OzOS. We invite you to use OzOS and enjoy. OzOS is the microbrew of Operating Systems. "Linux you would pay for!...but it's free!"

I kinda had it working, everything works on it's own, this is just my first try at a multithreaded program where each thread is truely independant(in javascript everything that's global is shared, everything uses the same dom, the same functions, the same code, in perl it's different, first you need to specify what's shared, and you can only break a thread to a different function, you can't spawn a new thread unless you give it a function to do, which is something I'm not used to). Still, gimme a while, I'm gonna look through the checkgmail source again, see how they handled it, see what I can learn, and try it out(intrestingly my new code layout hasn't broken anything, which is strange, normaly I break a lot and have to do 40 or 50 little fixes that all amount to near nothing).

OK, I'm gonna call it a night, I've almost got the threading working right, except now it's throwing errors when I quit:
GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_steal_qdata: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed during global destruction.
GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed during global destruction.
GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_steal_qdata: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed during global destruction.

Any ideas?

I kinda need an icon to repesent it though, I'm no good at graphics stuff, so at the moment the notification area looks like the attachment, I love that you can attach text in there, instead of just images :P
