Why not BUMP from the command line? w3m is installed in ubuntu by default, and it's got a habit for deleting cookies without asking, but you can turn that feature off, and use it to log-in here and get much smaller pages that should load faster.

BUMPerminal
The update thing (as you call it :P) relies on the same tool that handles all updates, there shouldn't be any reason for it to act crazy and decide to uninstall everything unless something goes wrong in a rather unexpected way. It has been extensively tested, it's just a rare and unexpected problem.
PS: sorry for replying in the wrong thread, I kinda reply to whatever thread I'm in at the time I read something to reply to, I don't think about it enough.

scragar
November 3rd, 2008, 01:24 PM
I do belive the upgrade thing you refer to is still the update manager, which still runs on apt-get as it's back end, but call it what you want, no-ones going to complain I don't think(I'm going to guess this will be proven wrong at some point, just because you can never predict people)
And again, no idea 'bout number of people suffering this bug, but from what I have seen it's a very small percentage of people who upgraded.

I mounted my HARD DRIVE, the one / uses!
How do i unmount it without trouble i ask.
My hard drive is now mounted on / and /home/noxn/usb (because my intention WAS to mount my USB stick, but i mounted my HARDDRIVE where linux is.)
EDIT: thanks for the backup thing, but how do i exclude the USB folder? (because when the stick is mounted finnaly, i dont need to copy the stick)

Well, if you are only backing up the contents of the /home folder, then you won't have to worry about the USB drive as it is in the /media folder.

If i copy my entire home folder, with my damn hard drive mounted on that Usb folder in my home, wouldnt that like copy everything i have on the harddrive?.........
ALSO:
MY USB DRIVE -ISNT- MOUNTED.
Im in the CLI.
I mounted my HARDRIVE on instead of the USB..... On that folder that i just called USB because i wanted.
Damnit i feel so dumb, nobody understands me, or i dont understand you.
EDIT:
So my status is this:
Im in the cli.
I want to install that ubuntu-desktop package.
I want to backup first.
I failed to mount my usb stick and mounted my hard drive instead in a folder in my home, and now i want to know how i undo that/exclude USB folder from the backup, and FINALLY save my backup on my stick.
edit2:
This is what some command said about my mounted things:
/dev/sda1 > / (sda1 is my harddrive, i think, looks like it.)
/dev/sda1 > /home/noxn/usb
Something like that.

Morning everyone, did Noxn solve his problem?
Either way:
To exclude a directory(s) from tar use: tar -cvf /homeBackup.tar . --exclude=dir1 --exclude=dir2
And to umount your USB drive I think you can runumount /home/noxn/usbbut honestly if it's not umounting I'd go mad and force itsudo umount -a -flbut that's not recomended.
