WEll I had already planned to buy a monitor anyway and keep this one as spare but I never thought this monitor would go kaput so suddenly (I was working on it yesterday, when there was a flicker and all went pink).

It's sort of like that quote "Curiosity killed the cat."
Most people leave it like that. Or they just don't know the rest.
The complete phrase is: "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back."

Another quote along the same version is: "No rest for the weary."
The actual quote is Biblical and goes like so: "No rest for the wicked."
It's kind of funny how that works. People say something without knowing what they are saying. The first saying is saying that curiosity is dangerous but good (my interpretation and not necessarily correct) while the second is saying that bad people always need to be on guard and never have peace because of what they are doing.

I've never heard the phrase "titbit", I've always heard "tidbit". I don't think it's the word tit that gets people uncomfortable, they probably just haven't heard any different - it's just American English (like part of the dialect).

I had never heard of the other spelling. Well, I can tell you that if I started to say anything like so: "Oh, I heard (Or worse saw) this interesting titbit the other day..." they would ignore the rest of the comment and run around laughing at what I "said". I think that, for hear at least, if you want to get anything said in a reasonable manner, you stick to the tidbits.

I'm sure now you would find titbit humourous, but I think that is more because it's been forced out, than it's wrong or naturaly humourous. Personaly I think tidbit is far more funny(what is a tid and how do you get a bit of it :P), but then I'm not the kind of person to laugh at the word tit.
