I'm assuming that by "sof2" you mean "Soldier of Fortune 2".
Yes, SoF2 can be played in Linux, using Transgaming's Cedega (recommended) and even Wine (still works, more work involved). SoF2 uses the Quake3 engine, and as far as I can tell, it emulates well.
Cedega issues here: http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Soldier_of_Fortune_2:_Double_Helix
Note that I've only tested the demo of this game and it did work, a while back. (Using WineX 3 or Cedega 4.0--don't remember)
Counterstrike (NOT SOURCE) I hear works pretty flawlessly, and CS:Source and Original CS with Steam is said to work with Cedega, well. (The same applies to Vanilla Half-Life and HL2I can't confirm this, since I really don't like CS so I never play it.
List of games confirmed to work with cedega: http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Category:Working
Also if a game has an installer here, then its a GOOD bet that it works as well: http://liflg.org/?catid=7
Hope this helps.

Lets see, off-hand you *might* need a No-CD crack. If you get the commercial Cedega, then most of the time (usually) the copy protection works properly and no crack is needed. This is for SoF2. I am not sure how Counterstrike does its thing.
Other than Wine or Cedega, and the occasional crack (rarely), and of course, the right OpenGL drivers installed, thats basically it. Also, check some of your games.. they may have native linux versions out. Stuff like any of the Unreals or Quakes and a few others, you can download installers for them and not have to use Wine.
As far as apps, I highly recommend using a Linux native app whenever possible, instead of emulating a bunch of windows ones. Check out this thread here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=33183&highlight=program+list
If something there doesn't meet your needs then you can *try* playing with Wine. Your milage WILL vary.
