I stumbled upon a different Linux distribution -- LINUX XP. I think they made this for easy Windows to Linux migration without the unnecessary pain experienced by total newbies. :) Tell me what you think if you have tried this?

Haven't tried it. And don't want to.
I have nothing really against XP. But I think in the long run, it will just confuse people more then it gives comfort. Linux is not XP. By pretending to be so, people with get angry when things don't work like they do in XP. While if you make it clear from the beginning that it's something different, they will grumble, but accept the fact.

Remember, linux!=windows.
If you let people think linux=windows (and with distributions like Linux XP sure they will) they won't notice the change. And that's the point of linux: change. Linux is not a free windows, linux is the alternative to windows, you have to accept the differences and start learnig how to use it :)

Shouldn't we be on Linux Vista now?

I think Linux should continue to be Linux. I am happy the way it is though I am open and welcome improvement and new ideas from anywhere even from XP, Vista, Mac or anywhere.
What I dont think appropriate is the one to one copying or immitation. Copying something is always bad because everytime you will be one step behind the one you are copying from.
Linux should maintain its distinctivenes and not try to copy or Imitate anything else.

You have a syntax error, it should be "linux == windows", you made an assignment, not a comparision.

I tried it out a few months ago (http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2007/04/12/linux-xp-desktop-and-the-lxde-live-cd/), and it worked and looked fine to me, if you want an XP-like Linux machine.
There are ways to make Ubuntu look like Linux, if that's your goal. If you want something that walks and talks like XP though, I think installing XP is really the only thing that can be done. Everything else is going to seem close, but not perfect. :)

Linux XP is a Russian-made RPM distro, made from Fedora or something but a lot buggier. At least that was my impression from their previous version. I remember, I had installer problems. They are also not free, I mean, you need to buy a license.

Buggy? Seems rather faithful to windows then :D

IMHO, its a poorly made distro that, again IMHO, shouldn't charge so much for updates. PCLinuxOS is a better replacement of Linux XP, but at least its goal is not to make the user think Linux==Windows, but to just make an easier transition into Linux.

I'll remember it for the next time :)
