As far as I know, there aren't any HL2 .bin's yet for LINUX. When someone gets a chance, could they try HL2 on Cedega, and post results?
All HL2 discussons can go here accordingly.

Yeah, well, they have "full support" for a lot of games that work only sporadically.

OK I have a bit of a question regarding all half-life games... if you update them to the newest version now, do they all require steam? That seems to be how it works, unfortunately. I've heard nothing but good things about half-life games in Cedega, but steam gets tricky occasionally... and how does Steam integrate with the games? (I'm not a half-life buff... haven't played it in over a year, or any of the addons, so I'm behind.. I just installed steam in Windows to play HL2D: Codename Gordon)

If you want to play any Valve games online, you need Steam, and it needs to update. If you want to play HL singleplayer you don't need Steam; you can install it as normal and get the latest patch that came out before Steam, if you Google enough for it.
Unfortunately, my luck with Steam thus far has been poor.

Yeah, I've heard as much from you and other people. I'm just wondering how that's going to affect using HL2 in Cedega... has anyone actually played it yet, in Cedega OR in Windows? I'm dying to know how it is.

I finally got Steam to run...sort of. (I say "sort of" a lot when referring to gaming/3D, don't I?) I deleted my .transgaming and started with a clean one and I finally got to the login screen. However, when entering my login information and clicking Submit, the program starts eating 100% CPU and nothing happens.
I'm getting closer! Steam, you are no match for the almighty Squirrel!
Edit: nevermind, seems to be working now! I'll let you know how the CS install goes! \\:D/

I had it running in windows a scant hour after release and I can easily say that, IMHO, it's the best FPS ever.

Using the latest beta of Cedega I've bought the Steam Silver edition and downloaded most of the available games through it, but for me both CS Source and Halflife 2 run with horrible framerates (8-10 fps). The older games run fine.

OK Just got done with Half-Life 2 a few hours ago. Everything worked spectacularly except the intro video with G-man talking to you and the outro video with G-man talking to you. I've seen some posts in other forums about this happening even in Windows with certain drivers, so that may have been my problem. Also, as posted before elsewhere, the fonts are very wonked. I had some problems with NPC AI in one level, some essential parts not loading in the last level, and once with the boat-thingie I managed to drive off of a map, but all those were the same in Windows as well.

Hey, can someone with HL2 give me a pm and let me know if you can send me some files? No matter how many times I reinstall this thing, the map "black mesa east" never works. Judith starts to take me down the elevator and then just stands there and won't get in, so none of the rest of the game can continue, so I have to cheat and skip it. Files that begin with the following are either mapnames or the files that seem to be causing problems

I actually had the same problem in windows. I was using my little bro's steam accnt to get HL2, but then I applyed a no-steam crack. I can't really remember how I fixed it, but I think it had something to do with one of those AI-fix's for the not completely legal copies.
I'm having trouble playing this game on Ubuntu though. I got it to go into a big black screen, but then it says the sound device is already being used, then I have to kill X, but then I can't restart it, so I have to reboot. I once got it to go all the way to the blured out screen, but then it crashed back to the terminal :'-(
I really hope I don't have to install windows to play this game. I will NEVER EVER use windows again after I've witnessed such perfection.

No, I installed it through regular Cedega that I found off of google (not sure how legal it is though)
I prefer to read what is going on when I run something, just so I know what is going on when it crashes.
Is there a reason I should use P2P to install it?

Well P2P can be used to centrally manage & configure your installed games.
The reason I asked is that with P2P one can choose to configure HL2 & adjust the sound server to be used, or mess with the dsp or mixer properties quite easily.
It's convenient but I don't think essential.

Oh, alright.
I've already tryed switching from oss to alsa, but still no go. I'm at school ATM and have an idea, but there's nothing I can do now.

Yo. Ummm... yeah... you people are silly.
If you havent already figured it out, Ubuntu comes with the enlightened sound demon. Which is a great little thing... what it does is it takes your sound device, builds a big brick wall around it and says if anyone wants to play sound they have to use me.
This means that when cedega's ALSA or OSS code goes "oh, I wanna use the sound device" it cant get in.
Your second problem is that HL2 doesn't run without sound... at least not in cedega.
The answer to both your problems. Firstly, bind the gnome system monitor to F12. I cant stress this enough... it makes life a lot more betterer. (thats right... betterer.) Then open your gnome system monitor and like... totally kill the esd process.
You'll be sexxing to the moon in no time.
Peace out my negro brothers. \\:D/
